When in a biome and exposed to shimmer, NPCs will transform into a new variant that matches their biome. NPCs in an aether biome will turn into their current shimmer forms. The rest of this post is a list of biomes and transformations for each NPC. Focusing mainly on the ocean, as that's the area I'd like to get more NPCs for the most.
An alternative that would suck up less Dev time would be to make these transformations only occur in Biomes that the NPC likes. For example: The Nurse would have her normal appearance, her current shimmer transformation, and a special transformation that occurs when she is shimmered in the Hallow biome. for some NPCs you might not have many options to add with their liked Biome, and could instead base it off of their dislike biome. Not many ways to make Santa even more snow themed, So instead there would be Desert Santa. The Princess gets one for every biome though bc she is special.

- Princess -> Mermaid Princess. Has large fancy fins, similar to a Lion fish, Beta fish, or something of that nature.
- Zoologist -> keeps her same general vibe but is now a seal furry.
- Painter -> Copyright free squid painter
- Guide -> a shipwrecked castaway
- Angler -> A slightly more colourful look, supposed to be a stowaway. something u might imagine from the age of sail. Alternatively, a design based off of an angler fish
- Pirate -> a Captain Ahab look with an eye path and white beard
- Witch Doctor -> his staff becomes a trident and his overall appearance is a bearded merman similar to Poseidon. Alternatively, a fish man with the same general vibes
- Truffle -> changes his lower half to a more pale rock-like texture. instead of having a mushroom head, has a coral on his head. Some corals that could work are the grooved brain coral, the Great Star Coral, or the Smooth Cauliflower Coral
- Santa -> gets a surfboard and cool sunglasses. Inspired by depictions of santa from Australia where he is surfing (since Christmas happens during the summer in the global hemisphere)
- Steampunker -> gets an old fashioned scuba suit with a diving helm
- Skeleton Merchant -> Covered in seaweed. looks like someone who died a long time ago.
- Golfer -> Wears khakis and a floral top. like a tourist went on vaction to golf at Hawaii
- Dryad -> replaces the leaves with seaweed, maybe her braid appears to float as if underwater.
- Nurse -> Mermaid nurse, her tail could have stripes similar to a cleaner wrasse. Or she could just be a mermaid nurse.
- Tax Collector -> Crab
- Traveling Merchant -> Trader from 1500s. Maybe similar to a Venetian trader from that time period
- Wizard -> has a pink coral themed outfit with shells or fish on his hat
- Clothier -> Uniform similar to a Napoleonic soldier. very fancy. Alternatively, could give him a pirate look to fit in with the other pirates in this list.
- Old Man -> a bedraggled version of the above
- Stylist -> Same general vibe with an apron, but now a mermaid. Someone has to brush the Princess' hair.
- Party Girl -> Mermaid with the classic clam shell bra. Most standard mermaid. Her tail maybe appears to have a rainbow shimmer to it
- Goblin Tinkerer -> fishfolk, but takes more inspiration from deep sea fish. Maybe based off of a goblin shark?
- Mechanic -> Matches the goblin tinkerer with a deep sea look
- Demolitionist -> A more Dwarfy take on the underwater scuba diver.
- Dye Trader -> Gets an Outfit similar to the pirate corsair
- Arms Dealer -> Merman, so he can be placed near the nurse, or a pirate.
- Cyborg -> Has a Robotic Fish lower half, or perhaps propellers like he is aprt submarine.
- Merchant -> If the Witch Doctor is not a Poseidon look-a-like, then the Merchant can fill that role. If that role is taken, then the Merchant can wear a floral outfit, again looking like a tourist on Hawaii.
- Tavernkeep -> His two existing designs already fit the ocean really well. A new outfit that follows his current shimmered look, but is overall scruffier (without the fancy mustache and clean bib) could make him work as a Tavernkeep in a seedy pirate bar.
- Jungle: they're NPBees now. Everyone is a bee/bee person. This is the default look in NotTheBees. Or there could be plant people designs, or Lizarhd designs. Or turtle designs. Or jungle explorer designs. Many options here.
- Desert: A good number of Dinosaur, Fossil, and Paleontology looks.
- Snow: Christmas themed outfits. goblin tinkerer becomes a santa elf.
- Caves: Some more goblins and dwarves. Some cave explorers. But also some spider people (stylist especially could be a spider).
- Hell: A bunch of spooky/demonic appearances. Santa becomes Krampus.
- Forest: the default appearances are for the forest biome
