There are few summons in the game compared to other weapon types and I think it would be nice to be able to bring back an old friend in later content. So perhaps make certain outdated staffs upgradeable to a higher tier later in game to breathe more life into old discarded friends and add more choices for summoners at all stages of progression. Imagine taking some finches to visit the moonlord.
