Blocks & Decoration Bronze, Silver, Gold relics from bosses

Noedell

Queen Slime
This is for master mode.

The idea is quite simple. When you've defeated a boss for the first time, you get a bronze relic, defeat it for the second time and get the silver relic, defeat is for the 3rd time and you get the golden relic.
The lower the tier, the lower the intensity of light the relic emits when placed.

Alternatively we could add even more tiers, but I don't think that is necessary. A stone relic before bronze?, a wooden relic before stone?, a platinum relic after gold? a diamond relic after platinum? This would be ridiculous in my opinion but brainstorming like this is what these forums are for, right?

Why do I think this is a good idea?
It adds a bit more challenge to the game without making it harder per se, only a bit longer if you wish (which is exactly what I want) If you are a completionist, you have a little more stuff to do but it's not mandatory for 'regular players' so players still have the freedom to chase after the golden (or higher tier) relics or just 'rush' the game.
Since relics being master mode exclusive items, it will be a bigger reward when you finally get the golden relics (or higher tier)

Achievements?
Possible, but it would be either very hard or relatively easy to obtain, let me explain:
If we bind getting an achievement to obtaining a (for example bronze relic), everybody would just go for the easiest / weakest boss and 'cheeze' the achievement. Same goes for silver and gold or whatever other tier.

In short: You get one achievement for obtaining a bronze relic. You get one achievement for obtaining a silver relic. You get one achievement for obtaining a gold relic.

If we bind getting an achievement to obtaining a specific tier relic per boss. the developers would have to implement a lot of achievements and chasing after the achievements would be a horrible chore == not fun.

In short: You get one achievement for obtaining a bronze relic for defeating king slime. You get one achievement for obtaining a bronze relic for defeating queen bee. and so on... You get one achievement for obtaining a silver relic for defeating king slime a second time. You get one achievement for obtaining a silver relic for defeating queen bee a second time. and so on for each boss...

Conclusion about achievements tied to relics in my perception would be a NO for this reason.

Possible 'problems'
Completing the game, and defeating the bosses with end-game gear. I do not have a solution to this.

Okay… but why? If a player wants to refight a boss, they can do it. They don’t need to be encouraged to fight everything three times just so their trophy gets shinier.

Even then, it’s a not a testament of “you were able to beat it three times.” It’s more likely than not “you beat it once then came back with a Last Prism to kill it twice in the span of a few seconds.”

We actually already kind of have this in the game... the 10% drop rate boss trophies...

i have an idea: instead of the higher tiers being awarded the more times you refight a boss, the less hits you take, the higher tier relic you get. Would be great for encouraging no-hits

The basic issue is that most bosses give you access to stronger items that make re-fighting the boss easier, either through boss drops or things the boss unlocks, like EoW/BoC unlocking meteor and molten armor and providing nightmare/crimtane gear.

So getting the bronze trophy is actually the most difficult trophy to get, since you can't use the items the boss drops or unlocks.

The only real solution to this would be to force players to use a predetermined set of equipment in a predetermined arena with a predetermined amount of buffs and healing, and to have said predetermined items become more limiting each time you refight the boss to make sure gold trophy is the actual hardest one to get.

Obviously that is unlikely to resonate with most people.

Yes, the last part of your post is exactly the thing I stated, but it kind of is the problem with the other bosses in game too. You get a trophy for killing (and being lucky enough to get it to drop) But the trophies are kind of meaningless in the same sense. Get end-game gear, and farm for trophies.

...you didn't give an argument at all. Sure, you could Zenith Deerclops into oblivion post game, but all this does is make the issue both grindier and making it so it no longer works on mandatory bosses. Just let the players have their reward.
