My idea is to put those (to a similar effect), in Terraria. The 'Butterfly Knife' would be an Empress of Light drop with a 1/10 (10%) drop chance. The weapon itself would act as an indirect upgrade to the Terragrim, attacking in a similar fashion. Instead of a bombardment of slashes like the Terragrim, the player performs spinning butterfly knife tricks to attack enemies. In terms of visual appearance, it would be a rainbow butterfly knife, like this one:
Stats:
Name: Butterfly Knife
Tooltip: "animal cruelty at its finest" (could use some work)
Damage: 95 (melee)
Knockback: 2.5
Critical Chance: 4%
Use Time: 13
Velocity: 8
(Stat change suggestions are welcome)
I believe this would be an interesting and unique item to add to the game. It would find use in close-quarters melee situations, or tanky melee builds designed for running into the enemy.

Wouldn't this just be massively outclassed by the Starlight, which also drops from the Empress of Light?

true, it could use some work on the timing of obtaining it, i agree. im open to suggestions, if you have any, empress was just my first thought because the 'butterfly' knife could drop from the butterfly boss.

no. unless you consider the terragrim a yoyo? im not entirely sure how this would classify as a yoyo

It would not be classified as a yo-yo, it just would work effectively the same since it is a spinning melee damage object that hovers right in front of you.

Perhaps it could be an early hardmode weapon crafted with ingredients from the Hallow, like Pixie Dust and Crystal Shards.
