Can't connect to friends sever neither through IP nor via Steam

Are you using steam to host or direct IP? Have you tried the other option?

we have used steam and also direct IP nothing worked
Does your server have a password? If you turn off the password are you able to join?
Run me through what you're doing to host Terraria through steam, and what your friend is doing to connect.

We removed our password and i was able to join him no problem thank you for your time and answers have a wonderful day
