Game Mechanics Chairs can knock NPCs out if you press use with them in the hand.

Just a comedic gag.

Pressing the use button (not the place button) with any chair (while in your hand, not on the floor), and it can be tossed, knocking out the NPC it strikes; the attack deals no damage, but it does make them lie down in an unconscious state. They wake up a bit later.

The chair is given back to the inventory.

I feel like this part specifically could be a bit annoying. If a new player accidently did this to their guide for example, then they'd have to wait a bit before he can get back up (which would be bad considering Terraria is already seen as a non-beginner friendly game).

Maybe they just get up after like 5 seconds or smth. Besides that, support!
