Weapons & Equip Cogwork Claws: New melee weapon

MoultonLava

Torch God
The Cogwork Claws would be craftable with 50 Cogs, 10 Hallowed Bars, and 10 Souls of Might.
Stats:
Damage: 35 (Melee)
10% crit chance
Use time: 20
KB: 0.25
Hits 12 times per second (same as Terragrim and Arkhalis)
Uses local iframes

When used, this weapon slashes out with a range of a few blocks in front of you, capable of infinitely piercing.
Striking enemies causes pieces of machinery (like screws and scrap metal) to come out of the struck foes. Here's what the projectiles do:
Screw (30%) : Pierces thrice, and has a bit of upward momentum before quickly falling.
Various pieces of shrapnel (50%) : Flies off in a random direction with good velocity and a bit of gravity.
Gear (20%) : Stays in place while turning, dealing damage. Hits 10 times, before breaking into 3 gravity affected scraps.
this is meant to be like gouging the machinery out of something (don't ask about how this works with organic enemies, maybe they got infected with SCP-217, the Clockwork Virus.)

Additionally, when in Get Fixed Boi, the additional projectiles spawned have a 1% chance of being replaced with one of the following (which all act like shrapnel)
A car fender
A stop sign
A mini Terminator replica
A car exhaust
a smokestack
An entire car engine
and more

When being held, you can see long protruding copper and gold colored claws in the player's hands.

What do you think of it?

New destroyer shredder just dropped, hell yeah((this thing would be absurd against him)

Yeah, I guess
Maybe add Souls of Might to the recipe(fits with the fierce combat style), but it's probably fine

Also these might just completely outclass the Baghnakhs lmao

Do you want Architect Crest or Beast Crest ya gotta pick one

that may be true, but the Baghnakhs are pre mech, this is post Destroyer at best.
fair enough, and they're only on crimson worlds, so it's not a glaring flaw

Note that it'll probably start to bug out before it can even reach that maximum (which isn't much better)
When used, this weapon slashes out with a range of a few blocks in front of you, capable of infinitely piercing.
If you right click, you boost forward after a short delay and do a large slash in front of you, dealing 400% normal damage. This dash goes as far as the Solar Armor's dash, and has the same ram properties. (cooldown of around 2 seconds)
Most weapons don't have a R-click. I'm not saying it can't be used, but it should be used sparingly. Imo a random weapon like this doesn't even warrant it, especially considering that dps is not something you would need to buff.
After you land 30 hits, you enter overdrive, doubling attack speed and giving a little bit of lifesteal for 8 seconds (like 3.5% lifesteal). However, you cannot switch off the weapon while in overdrive.
The idea behind this is a very close range, but high damage melee weapon with a way to close the distance.

Judging from the attack speed, you will have this buff in about 2 seconds (and it lasts for 8) so getting 43% melee speed-- which lowers the amount of time needed to 1 sec-- effectively gives 2813dps (3094 w/ crit) assuming the game doesn't break into pieces with that speed (which is almost guaranteed.) Oh yeah you're getting over 100hp/s too.

Heck, with this even with boosts at all you're getting a still inane 2438dps (2631 w/ crit) and over 90hp/s.
When being held, you can see long protruding copper colored claws in the player's hands, along with a wire connecting to a small engine at the foot.
Why copper and not the cog color?

I think the lesson here is that Melee speed is absolutely ridiculous if you leave it unchecked and forget about the Melee tick giving -1 usetime for free. You would need to completely shut it off on this weapon for it to be fine or at least heavily reduce it and double the use time (The Fetid Baghnakhs only take a quarter of the melee speed used and this has almost half of i's use time.) The doubling melee speed thing and lifesteal on a weapon where it doesn't thematically fit on is just overkill on a weapon that's already extremely powerful.

I don’t know the specifics well, and suggestions to make it more balanced?

Nerfed damage, attack speed, and made the colors copper and gold.

I actually screwed up the second table
It's even worse than what I said

The advice is to be very careful around low melee speeds. Imo cut out Overdrive and R-Click, reduce Melee speed by 33%, and double the use time.

Right click is staying, otherwise this is just a true melee weapon in a stage where every boss is in practically untouchable by it.
But yeah I can remove overdrive, that’s fair

Specified hits per second, removed overdrive, and nerfed right click.

So just 5 use time but unaffected by melee speed, got it. Should be fine.

Still think the dash is unnecessary but at least it's not as insane as before.

reason why i kept the dash is to make it more than just a Terragrim clone.
Not every weapon is unique. Isn't the Rainbow Rod just a Magic Missile clone? Isn't the Durrendal just a Snapthorn Clone?

It's not really competing with anything anyway (save for the Arkhalis which barely counts,) so I don't see why it can't just be Terragrim but better. Heck, for many players this is the only time a weapon like that would appear in their playthrough as both of those are very rare.
