Weapons & Equip combine obsidian shield and shield of cuthulu

shield of cuthulu is amazing but after a few bosses there are too many accesory options. there should be a way to combine it with other accesories so it doesn't fall off due to power creep. my suggestion is that you can combine it with the obsidian shield.

Unfortunately, expert and non expert items are strictly incompatible. Now, ther was a suggestion to combine the Bone Glove and Bone Helm into a bone shield. The Cthulhu Shield could combine with that for a Necro Shield!

maybe, but I would think it would need something else to still be able to hold up against the other later pre-hardmode accsesories.

SoC is relevant until the very end of the game, despite the fact that it is dropped from the first or, in extreme cases, the second boss of the game.
The more competition there is, the more variation there is and therefore the better the game is. If "too many accessory options" appear in the game, it is, on the contrary, a good thing.
Also, expert accessories should not be combined with anything else.

Ok guys. Possible big news. There is an example of items without the Material tag gaming it: getfixedboi.
The mechanicals skull, worm, and eye are all simple summoning items on other worlds, but on getfixedboi the can be combined into Ocram’s Razor for summoning Mechdusa. So, in theory the non-material accessory items could become material under some circumstances, but simply changing the world difficulty is probably insufficient.

I don't support this idea, not because of the question of Expert accessories not being combinable, but because I think it's a null hypothesis. Shield of Cthulhu, in my experience, never falls off or gets power-crept until you get another dash, and that doesn't happen until you beat Queen Slime at the very earliest, or until post-Plantera for most playthroughs. Dashing is insanely useful. This would just make an already extremely good accessory even better.

you only get another dash from QS which itself falls off after mechs soo...

I don't think it would be too powerful, and even if it was, there are many ways to balance it out. plus this is a post-plantera accessory so it would have to be a bit strong.
