Weapons & Equip Compendium of Chaos I: Mech-Boss Madness (Mech Boss Drops)

Casey Howley

Steampunker
Hello Terraria Community! My name is Casey, and welcome to my Compendium of Chaos!
You might be wondering about the title of this thread. You see, I've spent the better part of a month tinkering with a great deal of ideas, and putting everything in one thread would be a bad idea.
So, this is to be a series of posts, with the connected title: Compendium of Chaos.

Part 1: Mech-Boss Madness contains ideas regarding weapon drops and proper Expert Mode accessories.
The weapon drops from each boss follow a theme, which is included in their respective sections down below.

The Twins
Accessory: Cursed Lens
20% increased projectile velocity
Your attacks inflict Cursed Inferno
Definitely different compared the compared the item dropped by their pre-hardmode counterpart, but seemed fun. Based on the Twins' own behavior, in a way, so go rain green fire on your foes!

Weapon Drops
Theme: Blessings and Curses

Optic Staff
Yes, the Optic Staff everyone knows and loves! I do suggest maintaining its ability to crafted, as it provides an option for acquiring the item without the need for boss farming.

Tyrfing
Sword
Creates extended-range slashes when swung (Perhaps akin to Arkhalis and Terragrim, but larger, and slower?)
Inflicts Cursed Inferno on hits.
Occasionally inflicts Cursed Inferno on the user.
Perhaps not everyone's favorite idea to have a weapon that also hurts the user, but I was drawing on mythology, and this sword is known to be both blessing and curse, so it seemed a fitting addition.

Twin Gods' Bow
Bow
Fires fast-moving arrows in a straight line. Arrows may occasionally be Gold or Silver.
Gold arrows inflict Ichor onto enemies.
Silver arrows grant the user Regeneration on a hit.
There was no better inspiration to draw from than the twin gods Artemis and Apollo. My research wasn't terribly deep (thank you Wikipedia), but these two supposedly used similar silver bows, and each had their own enchanted arrows; Artemis' inflicting death and disease, and Apollo's granting health.

Malediction
Spell Tome
Creates a spinning ring of curse runes around the cursor.
These runes deal magic damage on contact with enemies, and occasionally release copies which seek out enemies.
The inspiration here comes from Vampire Survivors, and the Unholy Vespers weapon. If you've played it, you probably know what I'm going for here.

The Destroyer
Accessory: Mechanical Plating
10 Defense
Grants 10% Damage Reduction, and immunity to knockback
Not sure if this is a shield, or maybe something you just strap to your back, or what. But it's big, heavy, and very protective!

Weapon Drops
Theme: Creatures and Animals

Megashark
Everyone loves a good shark, especially a big one! I do suggest maintaining its ability to crafted, as it provides an option for acquiring the item without the need for boss farming.

Worm on a Chain
Flail
Flail head is a mini Destroyer.
Occasionally fires lasers.
What happens when you combine a worm on a string with a heavy, metal worm? This, of course!

Wild Talons
Magic Weapon
Creates magical talon slashes at the cursor's location.
These increase in frequency the longer the weapon is used.
Wasn't really sure what kind of magic weapon to make this one. Maybe it's some fancy magic gloves? Slash those foes to bits!

The Snapper
Whip
Strong, but slow.
Inflicts Broken Armor on hit.
Snapping turtles are fun creatures. Wind 'em up and watch them go with extreme force.

Skeletron Prime
Accessory: Prime Technology
Launches bombs and fires lasers at enemies while you are attacking.
Thought it would be fun to take the concept from Skeletron's Bone Glove and level it up. Now YOU can be the Prime Instrument!

Weapon Drops
Theme: Technology

Flamethrower
As with the other two, wanted to get the core soul-crafted weapon in here. I do suggest maintaining its ability to crafted, as it provides an option for acquiring the item without the need for boss farming.

Saw Blade/Chainsword
Sword/Chainsaw
Has a unique attack combo of two slashes (down, then up) followed by sawing.
150% axe power
What's a better showcase of technological advancement than combining everyone's favorite bladed implements? Couldn't decide on which name would be better though.

The Big One
Magic Gun
Fires a large, slow moving plasma orb which damages enemies near it and explodes on impact.
"That's one Big Freaking Gun."
Technology and "BFG" are basically synonymous. Huge guns for the win!

Forward Operator
Sentry
Summons a stationary artillery cannon to fire upon your foes.
Artillery is fun, right? Designate a point, and blast it! Simple, right? Well, not in really life, but this is a game, so have fun with it!

1st of all, Mech Expert Items are the way they are because they are a Trio

There is not a particular order to defeat them in order to reach the next part of the game

Even more, there's an achievement for defeat the Trio in a single night

That's why each of them drop a piece

Back in the day (when they were the Final Bosses in the 1.1), each Soul of them were used to craft the best weapons of each class

Hallow Set, Hallow Repeater, Gugnir and Excalibur, and some more, were craft using their Cobalt, Mithril and Adamantine equivalents, and using Mech Boss Souls

(Cobalt Sword + Mithril Sword + Adamantine Sword + no-remember-what-soul = Excalibur. And this with all Hallow items)

Then, by defeating them you will able to obtain the best Mage, Melee and Ranger items

Summoner didn't exist yet

Now, ignoring this

Accessory: Cursed Lens
20% increased projectile velocity
I like this one, but I have some questions

It increases ALL projectiles velocity?
Or did you forget write Bullets and Arrows?
How affects the Projectile Velocity formula?

(Weapons Velocity + Projectile Velocity) * (Projectile Velocity Multiplayer + 1)= Effective Projectile Velocity

It affects the "Projectile Velocity", the "Projectile Velocity Multiplayer", it's a separate Velocity Multiplayer like the Warmth Potion in Damage Reduction equation? How is it?

For example, the Molten Quiver says "increases arrow speed", in the formula does by converting the Projectile Velocity Multiplayer to 1 if is lower than 1, making almost all arrows for to a double speed

Accessory: Prime Technology
Launches bombs and fires lasers at enemies while you are attacking.
This I like it a lot, basically turns you into Dr.Octopus hahahah

Accessory: Mechanical Plating
10 Defense
Grants 10% Damage Reduction, and immunity to knockback
This is basically a different version of the Frozen Shield

And again

Damage Reduction Formula
DR = Damage Reduction

(1 - Set DR) * (1 - (Acc DR + Endurance Potion)) = Damage Taken %
(Damage Taken - 1) * (-100) = DR %

Now, at this point of the game (Mech or Post Mech)

Your DR options are (in Experts, as the Sug)
Worm Scarf (17% Acc DR)
Endurance Potion (10% Potion DR)
Frozen Turtle Shell (25% Acc DR when life is below 50%)
And Mechanical Planting (10% Acc DR)
With this you accumulate 37% + 25% when low 50% max life

So, by receiving 100 damage
(1 - 0) * (1 - (0.1 + 0.1 + 0.17)) = 63% damage taken, or 37% Damage Reduction
That means you just receive 63 damage

With FTS
(1 - 0) * (1 - (0.1 + 0.1 + 0.17 + 0.25)) = 38% damage taken, or 62% Damage Reduction
That means you just received 38 damage

Now, there is other thing, the damage received fist go through your Defense

Supposing you have Hallow Set + Mechanicical Planting (and going Melee for higher Defense), you would have

60 Defense

Now, Defense is more or less effective depending the Difficulty being 50%, 75% and 100% (Classic, Expert, Master)

By getting hit by the Destroyer Head (in Experts), you would being hit with 280 Damage if you were Full naked, with all this

280 damage - 60 Defense * 0.75 Defense Effectivity = 235 Damage Received

235 Damage Received * ((1 - 0) * (1 - (0.1 + 0.1 + 0.17))) = 235 Damage Received - 37% Damage Reduction ≈ 148 Damage Taken

You almost reduced in HALF one of the most devastating damage in game

With the FTS active
235 Damage Received * ((1 - 0) * (1 - (0.1 + 0.1 + 0.17 + 0.25))) = 235 Damage Received - 62% Damage Reduction = 89 Damage Reduction

Is INSANE, and this is not even correctz because you probably will use Iron Potions (+8 Defense), and you can wear Acc with Defensive Modifier

People often underestimate how powerful Damages Reduction is

I won't say nothing about the weapons because Souls exists, and you can craft with them various weapons for each class, all them good. New weapons are no needed

Oh you will not like what's coming next, haha.
Ah, it's okay, though, 'cuz it's all for fun anyway!

I never really intended my numbers to be final, because I'm not exactly a numbers person, so it'd be more than reasonable to tone this stuff down.

That said, here's some clarification:

The Cursed Lens is intended to increase all weapon projectile velocity, so its effect is useful for all classes.

I'll fully admit to not entirely taking DR stacking into account. So I'll see about taking that one back to the drawing board for an update.

And, as for the weapons, thought it would be fun to bring the Mechs in line with other hardmode bosses, but they could easily be craftable options rather than drops. Like I said, just wanted to have some fun with the whole thing.

Thanks for the feedback!

hm ok pretty good.

I have a question for you, and I don't mean to offend you in the slightest, as these are all very good suggestions! But did you perhaps take my idea from my Suggestion about the Chain-Sword? I have a link for my Suggestion, and if you could please look it over, I'd greatly appreciate it! (My Post)

If not, I am super sorry, and I wish you a good day! I in no way meant to accuse you of stealing, I just felt as if this idea was taken from my post. 😅

Have a good day! 😁

I am sure Casey didn't plagarise you, and if he did I'm sure it was accidentially ((like: I don't know where this was from)

If I may have the right for an opinion
A Chain Sword isn't rare as a concept, since is one of Skeletron Prime arms and is a popular concept in Cool Weapons (like Scythes, Scythes were made as harvesting tools and terrible as weapons), so it makes sense that both are Axes

One is obtain by crafting, and the other is a New Skeletron Prime Drop

And are rather different, Casey's one does Triple attacks and can act as an Axe or Saw, like The Axe

While yours is more like a Sword with an Axe function, and has nothing related to Skeletron Prime since is made with Souls of Might (Destroyer) instead of Souls of Fright (Skeletron Prime)

I'm super sorry! I'll try to be more open minded to seeing these kinds of posts, and the same kinds of weapons! Thank you @LisanPaez05 and @trya for the explanation, and I apologize, @Casey Howley, for being in the wrong. I hope this post gets more recognition! 😁

combine worm scarf with the plating, bone glove with the prime tech, and the cursed lens with the Sheild of cthulu for the three "unified" accesories

Hey, it's no biggie! I sorta came up with the idea independently, with a tad bit of inspiration from games like Fallout and Cyberpunk!
And, of course, the Saw being one of Prime's arms, like @LisanPaez05 said.
