You might be wondering about the title of this thread. You see, I've spent the better part of a month tinkering with a great deal of ideas, and putting everything in one thread would be a bad idea.
So, this is to be a series of posts, with the connected title: Compendium of Chaos.

Okay, well, I said I wasn't gonna do these, but I couldn't stop thinking about 'em, so here we are.
Welcome to Classy Conundrum, a sub-series of the Compendium of Chaos focused on new classes.
I am sure to get some flak for these, but I deserve it.
This one is Classy Conundrum: Cleric, focused on a hypothetical Cleric class, a class focusing on healing, scythes, and "divine magic"
Inspired by Thorium's Healer, but with my own changes and touches.

Some notes to preemptively address some potential concerns:
  • This post, and the others in this sub-series, are heavily inspired by content from the Calamity and Thorium mods. Shoutout to those teams, you're doing great work.
    • Some items may be directly taken from their source works. In these cases it is simply because I think the item works more-or-less fine as presented there, or is just fun conceptually.
  • No, I don't think Terraria needs new classes. But I do like the idea of new classes.
    • That aside, it'd be cool if any of these ideas make it even if for an existing class rather than a new class.
  • These classes act somewhat as hybrid classes, and as such may break some of the rules or perceived rules that exist. I apologize for this in advance.
  • I tried my best to give actual numbers for items included in these suggestions, but they're far from perfect, and may lean too much toward either end of the power spectrum.
    • On that note, crafting recipes may be too lenient or too resource-heavy as well.
    • This is not to say I won't accept feedback, it's simply to have the note more visible so I don't have to repeat myself.
Core Mechanics
Damage Type: Radiant

Cleric weapons are indicated by a new damage type: Radiant
Radiant damage increases with the usual sources: generic and class-based damage buffs.

Radiant Healing
Radiant Healing is a major feature of the Cleric class. This allows the player to heal allies, and occasionally themselves, though the use of various healing spells and effects. There are two main types of healing: Direct Healing and Life Recovery.

Direct Healing is, as the name suggests, performed directly, though the use of various healing spells and certain consumables.
All Cleric armor provides bonuses to Direct Healing, and many also increase the speed of healing spells.
Few healing spells can be used to heal the caster directly.

Life Recovery is continuous, passive healing granted by some sources. Contrasted with Life Regeneration, Life Recovery is not typically stopped by debuffs.
Unless specified, Life Recovery is 1 life/s. Some sources of Life Recovery stack with each other.

Bonus Health
Bonus Health is a mechanic utilized by a handful of Healing and Support spells, and increases a character's health beyond its normal limit. Bonus Health is temporary, and decays over time if it isn't consumed by taking damage. Bonus Health is displayed as sky blue hearts or bars which overlay the normal health bar. Bonus Health is typically limited by a given spells, but can never exceed an amount equal to the player's normal health.

Cleric Weapons
Cleric weapons are divided into the following categories:
Scythes, close range weapons that deal radiant damage.
Divine Spells, long range weapons that consume mana and deal radiant damage.
Healing Spells, long range tools that consume mana and restore health.
Support Spells, long range tools that buff allies or debuff enemies.

Scythes
There are two distinct types of Scythe:
Slashing Scythes, which slash in the direction of the cursor.
Spinning Scythes, which spin in a circle around the user.
Author's Note: I ought to make sample animations for these, but as clarification:
Slashing Scythes function akin to Terragrim more than Boardswords. They create a slash projectile a certain distance away from the user when swung.
Spinning Scythes function more like Broadswords, but are, on average, somewhat larger, and make a full circle around the user.

You might be wondering about the title of this thread. You see, I've spent the better part of a month tinkering with a great deal of ideas, and putting everything in one thread would be a bad idea.
So, this is to be a series of posts, with the connected title: Compendium of Chaos.

Welcome to Classy Conundrum, a sub-series of the Compendium of Chaos focused on new classes.
I am sure to get some flak for these, but I deserve it.
This one is Classy Conundrum: Cleric, focused on a hypothetical Cleric class, a class focusing on healing, scythes, and "divine magic"
Inspired by Thorium's Healer, but with my own changes and touches.

Some notes to preemptively address some potential concerns:
  • This post, and the others in this sub-series, are heavily inspired by content from the Calamity and Thorium mods. Shoutout to those teams, you're doing great work.
    • Some items may be directly taken from their source works. In these cases it is simply because I think the item works more-or-less fine as presented there, or is just fun conceptually.
  • No, I don't think Terraria needs new classes. But I do like the idea of new classes.
    • That aside, it'd be cool if any of these ideas make it even if for an existing class rather than a new class.
  • These classes act somewhat as hybrid classes, and as such may break some of the rules or perceived rules that exist. I apologize for this in advance.
  • I tried my best to give actual numbers for items included in these suggestions, but they're far from perfect, and may lean too much toward either end of the power spectrum.
    • On that note, crafting recipes may be too lenient or too resource-heavy as well.
    • This is not to say I won't accept feedback, it's simply to have the note more visible so I don't have to repeat myself.
Core Mechanics
Damage Type: Radiant

Cleric weapons are indicated by a new damage type: Radiant
Radiant damage increases with the usual sources: generic and class-based damage buffs.

Radiant Healing
Radiant Healing is a major feature of the Cleric class. This allows the player to heal allies, and occasionally themselves, though the use of various healing spells and effects. There are two main types of healing: Direct Healing and Life Recovery.

Direct Healing is, as the name suggests, performed directly, though the use of various healing spells and certain consumables.
All Cleric armor provides bonuses to Direct Healing, and many also increase the speed of healing spells.
Few healing spells can be used to heal the caster directly.

Life Recovery is continuous, passive healing granted by some sources. Contrasted with Life Regeneration, Life Recovery is not typically stopped by debuffs.
Unless specified, Life Recovery is 1 life/s. Some sources of Life Recovery stack with each other.

Bonus Health
Bonus Health is a mechanic utilized by a handful of Healing and Support spells, and increases a character's health beyond its normal limit. Bonus Health is temporary, and decays over time if it isn't consumed by taking damage. Bonus Health is displayed as sky blue hearts or bars which overlay the normal health bar. Bonus Health is typically limited by a given spells, but can never exceed an amount equal to the player's normal health.

Cleric Weapons
Cleric weapons are divided into the following categories:
Scythes, close range weapons that deal radiant damage.
Divine Spells, long range weapons that consume mana and deal radiant damage.
Healing Spells, long range tools that consume mana and restore health.
Support Spells, long range tools that buff allies or debuff enemies.

Scythes
There are two distinct types of Scythe:
Slashing Scythes, which slash in the direction of the cursor.
Spinning Scythes, which spin in a circle around the user.
Author's Note: I ought to make sample animations for these, but as clarification:
Slashing Scythes function akin to Terragrim more than Boardswords. They create a slash projectile a certain distance away from the user when swung.
Spinning Scythes function more like Broadswords, but are, on average, somewhat larger, and make a full circle around the user.
