Xbox 360 Connection Problem??

For some reason, when i try to join my friend's game it says Found Server or Connecting...and then it says there's a connection problem. i tried restarting my xbox, opening a new game, and reinstalling Terraria but still nothing. help

my friend has this issue when we try to play. so far the only solution is me connecting directly to my modem without using a "router" and my friend can instantly join. still trying to fix the issue when using my router.
