They are already trying to do this as far as I am aware.

Yeah, this is already being worked on.
The tricky part is Nintendo, Microsoft, etc. and their policies regarding stuff like this.

I hope they go through with it! It would be a whole new game if you could play with friends. I do understand why that would be so difficult though.
