PC Dye trader won't take strange plants?

As the thread says, I've been saving up strange plants for a while now. Yet, even at max happiness, he just won't take them anymore. What should I do?

Are you in pre-HM? He no longer accepts Strange Plants in pre-HM since they do not grow then.
