Map-Adventure Echoes of Corruption - A remastered classic

Echoes of Corruption

One of many Terraria projects I've been working on-and-off on over the years is a remake of the 2011 adventure map The Corruption of a World, created by a user called 'Rich' on the ancient and long defunct Terraria Online Forums. While the plot and general format is largely the same, the whole map is constructed from scratch and to a modern standard. Call it a fan-remake, if you will. Remaster sounds better. Whatever.

DOWNLOAD IT HERE.

I decided to rename the map from its original title to the new name "Echoes of Corruption". The reason is simply that the original title is totally unsearchable online and it makes the map difficult to find.

I'm doing this remake because I wanted to revive and let others experience the tale that inspired me to make adventure maps as a kid! Here are some comparisons between the original map and my version - do keep in mind that this map is probably older than like half of you. T'was a different time.

While the original map is divided across 3 separate worlds (large worlds didn't exist at the time), this remaster brings the whole thing onto one large world. In time of writing, the first 2 chapters are nearly ready for beta-testing. If you are interested in testing the map to find potential issues before release, please let me know.

For the record, I have not asked the original creator for permission because they have literally not been active on this forum for long over a decade and I genuinely have no idea how to contact them. If you happen to know this person, please send me a message!

The Corruption of a World - Remastered

So after... checks calendar eight years since my last released adventure map I actually have a project near enough completion that it's almost time to look for Beta testers. Let's just say the standards were different back then, hahah. It's the sort of map where the storytelling is engaging enough that I can look past the builds and just enjoy the journey.

...Could just be my nostalgia glasses talking.

Update - the first 2 chapters of this map are complete and I am now officially looking for beta testers! Let me know if you are interested in giving the map a try and tell me where there's bugs or room for improvement.

Things are moving along nicely. The third chapter of the Corruption of a World is where I have done the most changes and additions from the original. The original has a long stretch of jungle that really needed something to spice it up. In the remaster, the journey will take you through the ruins of the Iron Shrine, an abandoned underground monument infested by a giant Beehive. Iron bricks and the Queen Bee were not a thing back when this map was created, and today they make for a perfect addition to the last third of the map. Looking forward to see people exploring it.

Still looking for testers, so please do hit me up if you want to give the map a try!

Great news!

The map is now released, available right here on Steam Workshop.

I decided to rename the map from the original 2011 title "The Corruption of a World" to my own "Echoes of Corruption". Mostly because I wanted something more searchable, but I also find that it nicely represents both the story and the fact that it's a remaster of something that came before.
