Well, though my recent experience, they don't need to be defeated, as the Voodoo Demons can spawn at any time. (plus the 1.3 changelog does not metion this)

EoW is killable: Reason: Its not really anything.
EoS is killable: Reason: Its just a small EoW.
IN EXCHANGE
Shadow Scales CANNOT be used. Reason: Medusa's head is cauterized (you could really only get it if medusa fell into lava) but this is not, and you are carrying body parts that ARENT. Green mouldy blood everywhere. Yuck.
