Power-ups would be easier to obtain, simpler and short-lasting, giving a burst of power to your weapon. This could be increased damage or range for a few minutes. Useful in boss fights and other events. Perhaps these could have a chance to fall like falling stars or through lighting as well? Power-ups wouldn't be weapon-specific, and once consumed would apply to all weapons, unlike enchants. These would function like potions but for your tools and weapons.

If power-ups are too similar to potions then maybe falling stars and lightning would rarely have a field of effect for specific potion types, granting the player the effect when they run into the area, this could be marked with particles. Or the potions would be left on the ground for the player to pick up and consume.

Whereas enchants would bring a new system entirely, such as adding fire damage to your weapon, or striking lightning upon use. These could either be sold by an NPC or given after defeating bosses, you would be able to combine them with your weapon at a new crafting and disenchant at a new crafting station, once disenchanted you would get the enchant back in item form, this process however would cost unique gems depending on the enchant.

For enchantments, they could be done similarly to Calamity's enchant system, with an NPC that can enchant your items at a cost. They could be purely beneficial, purely negative, or have a tradeoff for the player.

Wait yeah is should!

I think tradeoffs are the best way to do it, so that players don't feel forced to use the enchantments.
Although I do worry that power ups will overlap with potions.
