Fastest way to destroy background walls?

Do accessory melee modifiers increase hammer speed?
Is "The Axe" the fastest hammer?
Any other tips?

Dynamite/bombs need not apply.

Axe/lunar hamaxe, with the Light prefix, and any range extending accessories ought to do it.

However, very little can truly match a snowman cannon with rocket IV

Bombs and dynamite can work. You just make them sticky, place a single block in the middle of some wall, and slap your explosive onto the block while grappled to it. Targeted explosions. Also make sure you've got the Architect Gizmo Pack for that speed boost if you're using any hammer.

More on the Snowman Cannon... If you don't have any solid blocks to work with around the walls you're breaking, combine use of the the Snowman Cannon with the Ice Rod so that you'll have something to hit with your rockets.
