Fishing problem

So i was minding my own things gettin ready to go fishin in terraria i got there put the line in the body of water i dug up thats 10 x 10 area and when it began jumpin up and down i pulled it out of the water the crate sprite appearing and then not appearing anywhere not in my inventory nor on the ground nor in the water

Please help its my first time postin
 
When you pull something out of the water and you switch to another tool/weapon before your catch is in your inventory, you'll lose your catch.

If you think that's not what happened, then you need to give a lot more information, like:
- Are you using mods?
- Are you multi-playing?
- Was this a one-time deal or does this happen often?
