Weapons & Equip Fourth liquid, Four new endgame armors, gravity mining, and more! [Big]

"Tired of grinding....early..material"
Did you not grind up a surplus of cobalt early on? If not, would you be mad if you have to grind something harder to get?
i doubt many people grind a ton of cobalt, most people probably even skip it only making drill/pick. Also, i'd prefer not to have to go back to something i didnt gave a :red: in a long time just to make something extremly late game. Instead of cobalt i'd choose either chlorophyte (its plentiful yet you need lots of ore for bars, making mining it not entirely boring (because you almost always have some of it on screen, so you dont mindlessly mine to nowhere)) or some other material, maybe fallen stars?

so...it drops as a block from enemies, requires a crafting station to melt, is used to forge weapons and has no noteworthy effect in liquid form, no visual effect listed and not even a description(i get the impression it may be purple? could it be replicated with a corrupt fountain?) why is it even a liquid? that bit feels tacked on

(and iirc terraria can only support 4 so i don't think they'd blow their last one on this(even honey seems like a bit of a waste if they're that limited, but at least between the slow and health regen it does something)

its limited to 4? how and why?

not sure, just remember that being stated as fact somewhere on the old forum, (may have been quoting redigit from somewhere). would have to look(something to do with the engine i'd assume?)

edit- found post saying it was said in a livestream in september before 1.2

well darn, i think it wouldnt be that hard to fix that issue if they wanted new liquid over 4 tho

You'd be surprised at the limitations of the code; its been stated quite a few times that adding more than 1 more liquid would have adverse impacts on the game. They are trying to save it for a liquid that is worth it.

Here's an idea: Maybe the ores spawn by mixing this liquid with other liquids? The Celestium could become the new Summoner gear, replacing Witchfire, and then we have Heliophyte for mixing Celestium and Lava, Titanite for mixing Celestium and water, and Astrophite for mixing Celestium and Honey.

why only 4 though? it looks like something because of binary but im not sure

OR maybe there are Witchfire Scales used to craft those tools, weapons and armor, which are obtained by fishing. So basically:
  • Frozen Celestium can be dropped by Lunar Invasion enemies, whatever that is.
  • It can be made into a liquid form with a new Lihzahrd Bucket.
  • This liquid turns bunnies into squirrels and combines with lava to make Heliophyte, water to make Titanite, and honey to make Astrophite. Fishing in it will yield Witchfire Scales.
  • Heliophite Armor focuses on melee weapons, Titanite focuses on ranged, Astrophite focuses on magic, and Witchfire focuses on summons.
  • In addition, they each have their own tools and weapons set.
What do you think?

This is entirely conjecture and I'm no coder, but consider that each liquid needs its own physics and interactions coded into the game. Liquid physics are some of the most taxing thing on the game, with massive water changes frequently causing lag-fests.

The addition of a 4th may be within what the engine is capable of simultaneously calculating, but a 5th might not.

Consider also that, at the moment, each liquid spawns a unique block on contact with every other. Right now, that is 3 blocks . . . honey block, crispy honey, and obsidian. Adding a fourth, it if followed the system, would require adding an additional 3 (Liquid X with water, lava, and honey). Adding a FIFTH liquid would require adding an additional 4 more, so on and so forth. Each liquid has its own interaction code, which probably adds strain to the system, and having liquids that don't have a "contact" block would require adding a whole new mess of physics for liquids to rest against each other.

So you can see that with each liquid, things get more and more complicated.

The ideas here are interesting, it almost seems like a real waste of the fourth liquid to be honest. As said, it does nothing besides change Bunnies into Squirrels. That of which is, sorry to say, extremely pointless. It seems like you could work around the crafting without actually having the last possible liquid in the game.

I would rather have something interesting done with the last liquid available, if we will be getting one. Not what you craft/create with the stuff eventually, but what the liquid itself does.

Support, but people without cobalt would be left out of all this equipment. i think celestium bars should be crafted with hallowed bars instead.

Honestly, the liquid thing seems silly, and the gravity mining could be cool, but it's limit to usage would be literally raising ground into an artificial floating island (well, it's natural, but artificially raised). Honestly, I feel as though we could use just one armour from this: a non-class specific set.

i'll admit this took some doing to read the wall of text and harsh colours, but once i got past that stuff, i have to say i'm pretty damned impressed. this stuff is pretty cool and could be good for the game since we strive so much for trying to get stronger and stronger and then get a little sad when it's finally over. you have my support, i would enjoy seeing this in game
