Frost Moon Final Wave in Record Time (Horseman's Blade Semi-Autofarm)

Damn I am having difficulties. Wave 13 at 4:30 AM. No luck.

Again using my Solar Flare armor with Meowmere (Horseman Sword didn't seem to be dropping pumpkin projectiles?)

No idea. Using all the same potions/accessories too.

Are you on PC? If so, I put out a guide to constructing a vastly superior arena in 1.3 expert mode here:

http://forums.terraria.org/index.ph...n-moon-frost-moon-all-invasions-bosses.33181/

This arena allows the player to reach wave 20 of Frost Moon before midnight with a sufficiently strong Stardust Dragon, and allows the player to reach wave 15 of Pumpkin Moon around 9pm. Theory dictates that this is close to an optimal set-up for AFK moon events, and the arena can also be used for all hardmode bosses except for the Moon Lord, and for all invasions too. The videos showcase all this :).

I am on PC. Got to wave 14 62%, ended up dying at midnight and just couldn't make it back to the Arena. I'm sure I will succeed here, just can't believe how difficult it is compared to Pumpkin Moon. Even Moon Lord for that matter lol

It got tougher in 1.3 because of the severe nerf to statues - you could previously activate each statue 6 times per 0.5 seconds, and now you can only activate each statue once per 0.5 sec. The generation of pumpkins was thus reduced significantly. Now in 1.3, the Stardust Dragon is the ultimate AFK damage source, and can be obtained fairly easily once the Horseman's Blade and Temple Traps become available.

I still kept the Horseman's Blade arena in my updated world for posterity :).

Good to know. The Horseman Blade actually ended up shooting Pumpkin Projectiles after and I was SO CLOSE... Until I died and could not make it back to the Arena after constantly dying at Spawn Point. *sigh*

Further note... Tried everything. Still no luck. Mind you my computer bogs out quite a bit, only 2 GB Ram, 6250 AMD Radeon. But tried many variations, with your armor, mine, weapons, potions are always the same. No idea. The Ice Queen is giving me a really tough time.

Also in my World, without all the spikes traps spawn statues etc. I get very close, also like Wave 13/14 4:30 AM. Just can't blast through the last couple rounds. Your map gives me ideas though really like the lay out. I am going to incorporate your Cannon Section into my Arena. I think that should boost it the right amount that I need.

Also the Star Dragon over the Star Cell? Thoughts? Dragon is only like 70 dmg Star Cells I can have like 3 at 115 damage with all my good armor and such. More experimentation and I think Frost Moon will be complete.

Thanks again, and again, CRAZY in depth map, wow lol Came in handy for materials :)

OMG I DID IT! YES! On my own map thank you for your ideas again Diceman!

So I made my own map to your specifications, the 37 84 and 47 tiles. Did Lava. Made my own little area with the cannon. Had 3 minions and the dragon. Used Cannon up until Ice Queen then I come out to this stone section and I use the Meowmere. It just bounces everywhere at like 400 damage. I got it RIGHT at 4:30AM OMFG! Lmao I'll upload the picture here if I can.

Thanks again Diceman!

I also added upper Lava tiers too to help damage the Ice Queen.

Nice going! Glad you were able to make it work it to your target!

84 tiles on each side of the spawn surface covered in lava, 37 - 40 tiles up from the surface for the mob box. yes?

Yes indeed! The distance to the spawn surface should be measured starting from the player's feet, and the minimum separation distance between the bottom of the feet and the top of the spawn surface should be 36 tiles.

Thanks. Figured I'd ask since the arena I built on mobile is quite a bit different due to the spawning mechanics being currently broken. IE, on mobile mobs can currently spawn within the minimum specified distance from the player so the arena setup is all weird. It makes you have to put lava on top of your engines and mob box otherwise mobs will spawn on top of them, like 10 tiles away or even less. A little bit more has to go into controlling spawn locations. My basic wiring and setup should still be the same though. Currently in my first console play through so I'll still have to farm golem to get a picksaw and add traps... plus farm a horseman's blade.. lol.. none of which is entirely difficult.

I'll post up my times once all that's taken care of.

Couple other things. Do the actuated spear traps count towards jungle biome spawn rates? If not, it's probably best to make your mob boxes and spawning surface out of jungle biome blocks (if this even matters for events).

Also, every arena I've built only has player created walls placed on areas where I don't want spawns. then I found this thread and there's tons of images of setups that are similar to mine, but all seem to have walls placed in the spawning area. I understand this is just for aesthetics, but I was under the impression that mobs could not spawn in front of player created walls. Is this not true for moon events?

I have a query, sorry I've not trawled through all of the post to see if it's already been asked. How do you get round the issue of the loot from the bottom of the trap and even the ice queen from being removed by the sheer number of glow sticks and gel and ther stuff from the statues?

I've had a blizzard staff and a razor pine overwritten due to the lootcap and it upset me!! Lol.

Set up a "hoik loop" / "hoik conveyor" system to separate out the items you want to collect from the items you want to fall on the floor and get over written / destroyed. basically, when an item sprite spawns on top of a sloped surface, it automatically moves to a new location once per game tick. So what you do is have sloped background tiles inside of your mob box in a series that makes the items get moved and dumped either onto the floor or into a lava pit. Doing that makes sure you'll never hit the max item cap and you'll never end up with an inventory full of stacks of glowsticks / shark fins / whatever other garbage you don't want. You can also set up a "hoik elevator" so the drops from the spawning surface get transported up to you to collect. Entirely up to you on that part, since it's probably unneccessary so long as the junk items are being destroyed. Tossing all the junk is pretty easy to set up. a row of sloped background tiles going into a small box with enough lava in it to destroy the drops should only take a couple minutes to set up.

One thing to note though, is that during the pumpkin moon the horseman's blade setup sometimes will kill the punpking inside of your mob box while he's floating on top of you. If the pumpking drops land inside of the mob box it might be possible for his drops to be hoiked into the lava.

It turns out that each swing of a sword can only hit either 3 or 4 times, so you actually don't need so many mobs inside the player chamber. If you use 3 Mimic Statues and 3 Slime Statues you can avoid all the drops from those statue mobs, and prevent items from disappearing.

However, this approach is now best on console, because on PC there is a superior approach:

I'm currently setting the farm up on console and to be fair it works well. I'm getting up to wave 17 on a world where I've stupidly set my farm up so high that I've got Harpys and Wyverns every few seconds so this is slowing progress down. I've never set up a hoik loop or anything like that so you've given me something to work on.

Just while we're on the subject of setting up a hoik loop, how do you get the system to move loot but not enemies, or is that not possible?

I was actually on a melee playthrough when I realized I can bring back the Horseman's Blade arena in a new fashion. This new arena features a entirely new system of killing mobs to spawn pumpkins. This time, instead of spawning mobs in the chamber, I created a system where there are mob statues more than 200 blocks away that teleport into the chamber above me. The reason why they are so far is so the pumpkin heads don't go after them and reduce the amount of pumpkins in the arena. I used Solar Flare armor and an Obsidian Rose to reduce damage from a lava invulnerability machine. You can use the slime mount glitch or any other kind, but I use lava so I can stay stationary. The mobs that teleport in are crabs and mimics, and the pumpkin heads just fly everywhere vaporizing every mob or boss. I can generate Frost Moon final wave times of 12:10 A.M. But my lowest time was 11:03 P.M for Frost Moon. I never tried Pumpkin Moon, though. This farm also vaporizes nearly all bosses, including Moon Lord. Because the amount of pumpkins vaporizing everything, the Moon Lord gets killed before he even kills the player. This is my most efficient arena, you guys can make improvements if necessary.

This sounds like an interesting variant! Is this in normal or expert mode? You should consider posting your version in the T-MEC forums, and maybe every upload some videos if you're able to! It would be interesting to see something other than Last Prism or Stardust Dragon-based farms for a change :).

I created this in both expert and normal. In normal mode you get final wave times of 12:10 A.M, while in expert, you usually get 11:03 P.M, which maybe is a world record for fastest semi-AFK Frost/Pumpkin Moon farm. I'm using my iPad to type this, as my PC says the forums are down even though they aren't. If I fix this issue, I can post this in the T-MEC forums, show a picture and maybe a video, and prove that the Horseman's Blade sits at number 1!

P.S I did a Pumpkin Moon and got 8:14 P.M final wave + 96+ platinum ;D

Were you able to stop back-teleportation of the mimics/crabs?

In fact, yes. I used the floating statue glitch which avoided using a dummy hoik to teleport them into the chamber. When the statue mobs fall, they land on plated teleporters which teleport them into the chamber above the player.
Just hold swing and the lagging begins.

Sorry, I meant in the blade chamber; did you use the same float glitch in there too?
