Items Gallon of Water: Consumable

TheGuideIsEvil

Terrarian
Resembles a giant bottle of water. It is sometimes found in Water Chests, and can also be sold by a Merchant that lives in the Ocean biome.

Gallons of Water provide a modest 175 health when drunk, but also confer the Overhydrated and Potion Sickness debuffs for about 1.5 minutes.

Overhydration provides some level of stat reductions, and also prevent the player from drinking bottled water/potions or swimming in it without taking some damage. This is based on the effects of overhydration in the real world.

Gallons of Water are great for healing players, but are a crapshoot in later parts of the game.

They have a rarity of Green.

Tooltip: Heals 175 health, Causes overhydration

I'm not entirely certain how useful a heal like that is, does heal more in a single burst and is seemingly available in pre-hardmode, but, when considering the added time, healing isn't really all that much more than a normal healing potion and stat reduction is a bit harsh with that I think.

Alright, so considering the cooldown of 90 seconds, we could either bring all values of healing potions to its value over time, or bring its value down to normal potions to see how useful is it truly, compared to other potions in its tier.

Water: 20/use, 60s cooldown, ~30 HP per 90 seconds
Mushroom: 15/use, 30s cooldown, 45 HP per 90 seconds
Lesser: 50/use, 60s cooldown, ~75 HP per 90 seconds
Gallon of Water (overhydrated): 175/use, -0.5 HP/s, less combat potential, potential damage taken using potions, deathtrap underwater, up to 130 HP per 90 seconds.
Normal: 100/use, 60s cooldown, ~150 HP per 90 seconds
Honey: 80/use + Honey Buff for 30 seconds (generously: 1 HP/s, 60s cooldown, ~165 HP per 90 seconds
Gallon of Water (alone): 175/use, 90s cooldown, 175 HP per 90 seconds.
Honeyfin: 120/use, 60s cooldown, ~180 HP per 90 seconds
Recovery Potion: 90/use, 45s cooldown, 180 HP per 90 seconds and can be used more regularly.
Greater Healing Potion: 150/use, 60s cooldown, ~225 HP per 90 seconds

Strange Brew: Can't really be quantified, but on usefulness it can be same as Greater or above due to added i-frames, or as bad as theoretical 70 HP potion if luck isn't on your side.

The mathematics say it can only beat its lesser healing potion counterpart and unlucky uses of Strange brew, and that's assuming the debuff is inverse of first stage of Well Fed (which gives you all around stat buffs; if that's not the point and you are using it when you're safe, it's indeed on nearly same grade as other high-tier pre-HM potions. Nearly, since in safety you'd usually dig.

If it's an unique debuff not affecting health regen... yeah, it's basically a quirkier Honeyfin that causes damage whenever you try to refresh your buffs on honey. Honey is generally a safer bet. Still, that may just cover a niche I might not be hearing about and not everything needs to be good to be honest, so support.
