the crystal storm in it's current form is just forgotten weapon with little to no purpose, with it being outclassed by the other two tomes when it comes to boss fights and exploration
In terms of early hardmode bosses, it's really only useable against Queen Slime (she takes a while though) and The Twins due to them having generally low defense in their first form, and the second form not having much health (outside of master, where it still takes a long time without minmaxing, at which point you'd be using another weapon anyways due to most of them being better due to them having actual range or being able to hit the boss from a distance). it's not good against prime due to him having multiple arms, and even with them defeated the head's defense and health take a while to deplete, especially since the crystals may miss due to them having a spread and them slowing down over time. and it struggles against the destroyer with his high health pool and defense, along with the weapon's lack of pierce, not to mention the bouncing mechanic only really works in a small place, otherwise the crystals loose too much velocity and fail to touch the blocks or bounce off far enough. this leaves it outclassed by the other two weapons as the high damage of the cursed flames along with it's pierce and debuff allows it to manage each of the mechanic bosses (though it's not that good for the destroyer) far better then the crystal storm, and the ichor shower gets good use as a utility weapon due to how powerful it's debuff is throughout most of hardmode
it's also heavily outclassed for crowd control, as the weapon cannot utilize it's bounce unless it's in a tiny area, and lacks the pierce and damage to be used in wide areas (such as during the pirate invasion, where it struggles to hit anything (excluding the ship) unless you're up close due to the spread of the weapon) or even boxed in arenas that are bigger then like 60 blocks. it's then also not amazing in tiny areas (such as a cave or the underground jungle) unless there's a singular mob due to the weapon lacking pierce. it is outclassed by the cursed flames in terms of crowd control, as it's able to be utilized in basically any situation due to having enough damage to not be heavily weakened by enemies with >20 defense, and having pierce. it can also arguably be outclassed by the ichor shower due to having infinite pierce and ichor. there are also weapons like the meteor staff and frost staff, which are able to control crowds well due to having a solid amount of damage (with frostburn helping out the frost staff quite a bit), and being able to hit multiple enemies
Overall, I feel like the crystal shower just doesn't serve much of a purpose, especially in comparison to the other two tomes, and in comparison to other early-hardmode magic weapons available, which is a shame because I absolutely love this weapon and find it so much fun to use.
I feel like either giving this weapon a bit of pierce or increasing the damage (even if the speed would need to be decreased to prevent it from being too strong) would make this weapon a lot more useful in general, and put it on par with the other two tomes obtainable in early-hardmode
