NPCs & Enemies Golden Ghosts... the money had to go somewhere!

So you know how sometimes breaking a grave spawns a Ghost? Well, what about golden graves? Shouldn't its Ghost be like, filthy rich?

A ghost resprited to use the golden critter color palette.
"boo!'

The suggestion is pretty simple, a Golden Ghost that appears when a golden gravestone is broken. This is mostly something I think should be added for flavor, the Ghost would probably not drop any lost money. It just exists for fun and logic reasons.

The stats should be the same as that of a normal Ghost, just with more defense because it's made of metal, of course! I don't know much else it could do.

Add top hat and monocle

I love this idea. But I think it would be cool if it were a reference to Jacob Marley from A Christmas Carol. That would be a fun reference. In the story, he was a greedy rich old man who died before the events of the story. He comes back as a ghost later, haunting Scrooge. As a ghost, he is covered in chains and has to carry around heavy stuff that is full of money. I think it would be cool if he were holding that, and when he died, he dropped it, and a few gold coins fell out.

I see the vision, but I do think it'd be a bit much for something like this that's more of a small but cute easter egg than anything else.

Good point. What if it was just a very small chance of this happening? And the rest of the time it was the one shown by the OP? Because yeah if it were overused it would lose the charm

Maybe it only happens at night when the Tax Collector is present to complete the reference. Not sure something so niche would make sense for the devs with their limited time, but it'd make it a more interesting addition at least.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel that most people would get the reference. Probably not knowing the name (I had to google it before this lol), but I think most people will recognise the idea of a ghost carrying chains that is rich

I don't mean 'complete the reference' as in make it easier for people to understand what it's a reference to, just as in to tie it into the material it's referencing more.

I said that solely in response to your use of the word niche. I agree with the tax collector part
(Maybe I misunderstood what that word means, lol)

Oh, I mean niche as in it'd be a niche interaction. Dying with that much money is already relatively rare, but then also triggering this easter egg would be even rarer. It just might be a disproportionate amount of work for something so few players would see in-game. It depends on how fancy the devs would want to get with it, I suppose.

I was just imagining like a bluer version of the normal ghost with chains on it

In terms of the disproportionate effort, I was more referring to you saying he'd drop what he was carrying then money would fall out of it. I imagine this effect would require adding an additional entity to the game for said dropped object that spawns money, which would be much more work than implementing a new ghost sprite for niche circumstances.

Though all this has given me the thought that if this extremely niche reference ghost were added it should be counted the same as the gold ghost or normal ghost for the purposes of bestiary completion, otherwise people will be quite confused on their one bit of missing progress.

Maybe it should just be a clone of the normal richer ghost, then, I guess. That would probably be easier and not necessarily require a bestiary entry

Yeah, I think that'd be ideal.

Why not make it drop something maybe a vanity or unique item would be sick

This makes me realize that ghosts could drop the inventory of mediumcore players

yall ever heard of a show called "full metal alchemist?"
It seems more like Hollow Knight (you have to fight your "shadow" in order to recover your money after you die)

Unless you're referring that the items are created using the ghost as fuel, right?

hell if I know
I've never actually watched it : D
In resume, you follow Edward and Alphonse Elric, two brothers what, after a failed attempt to resurrect their mother using alchemy, lost part of themselves, so now their search the "Philosophical Stone", an object that legends says that can break the rules of alchemy and transmutation.

The brothers, actually, find a stone pretty soon, but they discover that the item is made of human souls. Discovering that it doesn't break the rules of transmutation, but sacrifices a soul in order to create almost anything.

So you would "sacrifice a ghost" in order to "transmute" your lost items.
