Hosting servers on older versions

It may sound stupid, but I have been playing on Terraria 1.0.6.1 using Eikster's game launcher. I want to host a game to play with a friend (I have a static I.P. and have port forwarded correctly, and if I didn't, I know how to), but when I click "accept" after selecting a character, world, and password (or skipping it), the game crashes. I start the server with the "Host & Play" option, as I don't know where the server console is. Any advice?

There is no console on "Host and Play", and that is your only way of playing on an old server, unless you manage to find an old server software, which I doubt exists.
