Biomes & Nature How about adding a volcanic Biome as a post-Golem extension of the Underworld?

I imagine it going something like this:

After you defeat Plantera, parts of the underworld become unsettled (specifically under one of the oceans), start erupting, and pushing toward the surface in a similar way that hard-mode biomes spread. As the the Volcanic biome reaches the surface, it would start creating the traditional volcanic cinder cone (or a full up volcano for large world maps), and underworld creatures could start spawning on the surface in this area (possibly with some special biome specific variants). After the Cinder cone is established, the Volcanic Biome would either stop growing, or slow down dramatically. The emergence of a cinder cone on the surface could create new randomized events such as Eruptions, Pyroclastic flows (basically lava pouring down the side of a cinder cone), Lahars (massive mud slides), Acid rain, and periods of volcanic dormancy.

- Some possible new resources: Rhyolite, Potassium, Zinc, Magnesium, Lehua Trees, Coffee Trees, Grape Vines, various mosses, and the glorious Argyroxiphium, or "Silversword" plant. (Maui Plant of the Month: Haleakala Silversword | Maui, Hawaii)
- Possible mobs/critters in such a biome (in addition to the usual Underworld fare) might be: Pacific (or Terrarian) Sleeper Sharks, Lesser Flamingos, Iguanas, Cormorants, Sea Lions, Vampire Ground Finches, Komodo Dragons (not really a volcanic dweller, but would be really cool!), Carnivorous Caterpillars, and so much more! (https://a-z-animals.com/blog/these-7-animal-groups-live-near-volcanoes-heres-why/)
- A possible optional boss for the area could be a Fire Elemental (or maybe a Djinn) who, upon defeat, would put the cinder cone into a state of dormancy. (It could also drop a box of Bran flakes... 'By fiber be purged', along other items.)

Anyway, its just a thought.

So, this would be a feature that's unavoidable, destroys whatever you have built at the ocean, and also threatens more of your builds afterwards with volcanic eruptions? Hard pass.

Partial support. I think the volcanoes would be much better in the underworld itself. Post mech-bosses it has no content. I do like the idea of a way to spawn underworld enemies on the surface too though

Maybe it could spawn like the meteorite. That one destroys stuff too and is in the game

Sounds like it could be in a mod.

True, but meteorites avoid your stuff as much as possible. Based on the suggestion, the only way to avoid this one breaking your builds would be to just not build at the ocean, and that's not very fun.

I can see your point. I do think running a check for player builds would be reasonable.

Alas, my artistic skills are predominantly in music. I've dabbled a little with Aesprite... but not enough to generate anything of notable quality.

Well, maybe it could spawn anywhere?

Maybe. Its certainly not the worst idea. The reason I suggested one of the oceans is twofold; aside from Duke Fishron, there is no post hard-mode content there... and second, I like the idea of a volcanic island in Terraria.

Side note, the Sky Biome (which I suppose I should acknowledge as the 'space' biome) has a similar post hard-mode content deficit.

If I ever get some free time (and this doesn't get picked up by another modder, or Relogic), perhaps I'll look into making it.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. I was going to make a post suggesting ways to beef up the Ocean, but I ran into a wall on it - turns out, buffing the Ocean while keeping it feeling like vanilla Terraria is pretty hard. We all want the Ocean and Sky to have more in them, but keeping it balanced is really hard. There's also a trend of focusing on Hardmode instead of pre-Hardmode. There's no real reason for the Ocean content to get good at the end of the game instead of it getting good in the first half. We could even do both, if we tried really hard.

I don't disagree. I suspect people focus on hard-mode content as it makes a certain kind of sense that, if the world is going to undergo a dramatic change (releasing the ancient spirits of light and dark)... then why not institute other changes then as well? That, and there tends to be a perception that adding content to hard-mode extends the game... even if that's not necessarily the case.

For my part, I'm always happy to see the smaller biomes get more love... regardless of which side of hard-mode they land.

Desert could use a boss too. Maybe also the snow biome.

Snow has Deerclops, which is a bit of a special case because it's a crossover boss. But aside from that, what exactly would another Snow/Desert biome add to the game? How would that improve progression beyond just "adding another boss where there isn't one?"

Maybe the volcano could spawn during the world generation near the oceans (I'd prefer it being on the snow/dungeon side cuz jungle has enough stuff already) and have the blocks not be able to be mined or exploded until a certain point of the game where the volcano "activates"
Edit: Why can't I reply anymore? I'm new to the forums so I'm still learning stuff

It was changed a while ago so you can't post twice in a row anymore. You're expected to edit your last post or wait for someone else to make a post.

You could add a boss that makes early-game summoner easier? And make the goddamn goblin warlock/summoner actually drop at least one summoner weapon

Bosses aren't expected to provide something for just one class, though. The fact of the matter is, progression is pretty stacked already. Early Summoner has several options already, and they get their first real armor set (Bee armor) at around the same time as everyone else. There's not a lot of gaps to fill here.

Unrelated to this, but yes, the Goblin Warlock should drop a Summoner weapon. It's only fair.
