How do I beat expert mode Old One's Army tier 2?

I'm trying to beat the Ogre, but I keep getting obliterated around wave 4-5 and my weak tier 1 sentries aren't exactly cutting it to say the least. Even if I did survive it's very unlikely the crystal would survive the absolute horde of enemies coming for it. I really don't have the patience to throw myself at wave 4 repeatedly until I get enough defender medals, but I will if that's the only option. I've placed health regen things on the arena but I still die too fast and the crystal follows suite. Should I just ignore Old One's Army for now, or is there some type of strategy I could use to get more defender's medals? (I'm having problems with like every enemy by the way, Drakins and Kobolds in particular are annoying)

The general best approach for OOA is to at the very least have a sentry of the current tier (so in your case a tier 2 sentry). Clearing wave 5 will give you 5 medals so you'd only need to do that 2-3 times before you can buy a tier 2 sentry. I'd recommend to go into each tier with enough medals to do that (which is 15 for tier 2 or 60 for tier 3)

Weapons like the clinger staff and non-OOA sentries (e.g. queen spider) will help a lot for defending the crystal, and you'll want a weapon with good crowd control capabilities to use as well. With the event I've usually found the danger is usually less that I die and more that the enemies get to the crystal (if you find yourself dying, play less aggressively)

What armor, accessories and weapons are you using currently? That could also be the problem
I'm wearing Hallowed armour, with Berserker Glove, Summoner Emblem, Amphibian Boots, Shield of Cthulu, Pygmy Necklace and Red's Wings all with Warding. As for weapons, I'm using the Durendal and Firecracker with Sanguine Staff.

Thank you very much for these tips, I'll have to keep this in mind.

Also this might be a bad tip, but if you don't have platforms already, you should.
It's probably just me, but it took me way too long to realize that you're allowed to place platforms around the Eternia crystal. I probably finished over 3-4 playthroughs where I did OOA up to tier 3 before I found out.

I wouldn't say it's a bad tip, though you probably don't need more than 1 platform about 15-20 blocks up (more can be useful for betsy but for the earlier tiers that's more than enough).

That all looks fine to me then

Along with what chewy and Orchamut said, since you've defeated at least one of the mech bosses you can buy a Blend-O-Matic from the Steampunker, then use some Stone Blocks and Gel to make Asphalt Blocks. They'll let you run really fast back and forth, so along with the platforms it'll help you retreat if you take a lot of damage

If you have an Imbuing Station from the Witch Doctor then some Flasks of Cursed Flames or Ichor could also help if the damage isn't enough

If you decide to do the Old One's Army later, be sure to do it before Golem since that's when Tier 3 will become available
