PC I can´t break the demon altar

I beat the wall of flesh and obtained the great hammer but when i tried to break a demon altar this one only make me damage. I died 2 time trying to break him but nothing. When i beat the wall of flesh my game stopped after I grab the Great hammer. I dont now what to do.
Edit: the "Still Hungry" Achievement is unlocked

Maybe re-beating wall of flesh? I reckon your world is bugged and didn't go into hardmode when wall of flesh is killed. See any hardmode enemy yet or does hallow spawn? If not, your world is probably glitched.

I would try beating Wall of Flesh again. Its possible your world's data was rolled back, or the WoF flag was not properly set, even though your character kept the Hammer.

Has this happened before? Are you able to test this problem in another world?
