I lost my progress in Terraria due to updating my operating system

Sorry for the inconvenience but about 2 months ago I updated my operating system and today I wanted to play Terraria but I didn't have any characters or worlds or anything. I wanted to see if you would help me. I have tests on Steam if you need them.
 
Terraria saves players and worlds locally as files by default.You likely dud not back up your personal data in your Documents folder. Specifically, this is /Documents/My Games/Terraria for Terraria, but you likely had other stuff in your Documents folder that you should have backed up.
To store players and worlds in the steam cloud, you need to specifically move them to the cloud from within the game.
