Casual if you could only play one video game, what would it be?

I actually think many people have exaggerated how true that is. Portal 1 is heavily built off Half-Life 2, and so is G-Mod (obviously), but if I remember correctly basically all the other games aren’t build of Half-Life 2 the same way Portal is.
As someone who's worked on Source mods under the hood before, they're all built on the same framework. Team Fortress 2, for instance, was developed at the same time as Half-Life 2, and a lot of Half-Life 2's anniversary features were directly ported over into TF2 because they work off such similar branches of the engine. The reason you can just mount Source games into Gmod when you have them installed is because they're all structured the same way using different pieces and configurations of the same core. In fact, when creating a new Source mod, effectively a new game on the same engine, you start by telling it what existing Source games to pull from.

Some of the newer ones are enough of a telephone game that that compatibility starts to degrade; Portal 2 for the longest time had its maps unplayable in Gmod despite the assets being mountable, though that was recently fixed. Black Mesa is built off of Team Fortress 2's branch but almost completely rebuilt from the ground up with a (worse but cheaper) physics system and everything. And then there's third party games like the Titanfall franchise and Apex Legends which are practically unrecognizable as being on the Source engine at all.
Half-Life 2 is still a good choice though. I might personally go with that as well, just because you can do literally anything in G-Mod (if that is included with this) and Half-Life 2 is a great game as well. But would you consider episodes 1 and 2 to count as part of one game?
The episodes are bundled in with the base game of Half-Life 2 on Steam now, so I'd absolutely count them even disregarding all the aforementioned pedantics and technicalities.

if you could play one non-terraria game for the rest of your life, which game would you choose?

note: it has to be PG-13 because that's the rules
