Background:
  • I've been playing Terraria on my M1 iPad Pro for the past week with the Magic Keyboard accessory attached to the iPad, doing a single player Journey mode playthrough on a small sized world with the Celebrationmk10 seed.

Problem:
  • Occasionally, I've noticed this weird bug where the keyboard input becomes unresponsive/laggy/extremely slow/delayed, where I no longer can use the dash ability while Shield of Cthulhu is equipped. Additionally, I later noticed when this bug occurs, the keyboard input for control key and option key no longer registers in-game, making it impossible to use things tied to those keys, such as toggling smart cursor, favoriting items in the inventory, toggling accessory visibility, etc.
  • The input responsiveness of the trackpad input is unaffected
  • The input responsiveness of touchscreen is working as expected
  • Since I have a PS5 DualSense controller I tried that and the input responsiveness was fine as well

Workarounds I tried, but did not work in fixing the issue:
  • Restarting iPad
  • Re-installing the game
  • Re-attaching the Magic Keyboard accessory
Temporary workaround:
  • Eventually, through some luck and chance I found a way to temporarily fix this bug before it seemingly occurs again at random.
  • The way to do fix this is to open the crafting/journey menu, and click on the magnifying glass icon to open up the text input search, type anything in, then close out of the search, this somehow restores full responsiveness to the keyboard input.
  • Hope this info can help others who might have the same issue before the official fix is implemented!

I have the same issue with a Logitech K380s Keyboard, the temporary workaround also works for me (Thank you! :) ).
I think it is important to mention, that this issue only started occuring ever since I updated my iPad to iPadOS 18. On iPadOS 17 everything worked flawlessly, same iPad, same Keyboard.

Thanks for the report! This should be fixed when 1.4.5 releases.

In the meantime, a quick workaround is to open / close your chat - that should quickly restore your game to working order!
