PC It seems as though my S key is being pressed down at all times whenever I am playing. I fall directly through platforms regardless of what I do.

Terraria is the only game this is happening on and I have tried everything I can think of which includes: "

1. Test With Another Controller

  • Why: There may be an undetected issue with your current controller's compatibility with Terraria.
  • What to Do:
    • Borrow or use a different controller (e.g., Xbox, PlayStation, or generic USB).
    • Check if the problem persists.

2. Check for Steam Input Conflicts

  • Steam’s input settings can sometimes cause unintended behavior in certain games:
    • Open SteamLibrary.
    • Right-click on TerrariaPropertiesController.
    • Set Override for Terrariato:
      • Forced Off (disables Steam Input).
      • Forced On (forces Steam Input; useful for non-Steam controllers).
    • Restart Terraria after each change to test.

3. Disable Background Inputs

  • Why: Other programs may be sending input signals Terraria interprets as "S."
  • What to Do:
    1. Close all background programs, especially:
      • Controller mappers like DS4Windows or Xpadder.
      • Overlays like Discord or NVIDIA GeForce Experience.
      • Keyboard-related tools like AutoHotkey.
    2. Relaunch Terraria and test again.

4. Test Keyboard Emulation Settings

  • Some controllers emulate keyboard keys, which might map "S" as part of their input:
    • Check your controller’s configuration software (e.g., Xbox Accessories, DualSense software).
    • Disable any keyboard emulation options.

5. Use a Fresh Terraria Profile

  • If the issue is save-specific, it could still persist after a reinstall:
    • Rename your current Terraria folder (e.g., Documents/My Games/Terraria) to something like Terraria_Backup.
    • Relaunch the game to create a new configuration and save folder.
    • Test the issue with a fresh profile and no mods.

6. Debug With Logs

  • Terraria can produce log files that might reveal the source of the issue:
    • Navigate to Documents/My Games/Terraria/Logs.
    • Open the most recent log (client.log) using a text editor.
    • Look for entries mentioning key presses, controller issues, or errors.

7. Try the Game Without Steam

  • If you’re using the Steam version, try launching Terraria directly:
    • Navigate to the Terraria installation directory (SteamApps/common/Terraria/).
    • Launch Terraria.exe directly.
    • This bypasses Steam Input entirely."

So far none of these have been effective. The only semi useful solution was swapping my down key bind to any key besides S, but it is quite a weird way to play pressing x instead of S and i was trying to find a way to fix it without that. I am only falling through platforms as well, I am able to freely use ropes without any issue for whatever reason.

Another way to check if it's an issue with your S key is to equip a pair of wings that can hover (e.g. hoverboard) and see if you can fly normally (aka without hovering). If you can't it's an issue with your S key (which is what I'd imagine your issue is)

Which other games did you test it on?

i appreciate the response and assistance, I just tested this out and it works just fine but i still fall through platforms. I am boggled. Edit: it also doesn't affect the UFO

i have tested it out on Ark survival evolved, Rust, Minecraft, and left 4 dead 2. They all work fine

Don't mean to be "That Guy," but are you using any mods?
Edit: I guess I should say, "Were you using mods?" I find it possible that a mod could have the potential to change the way a program executes, even after the mod is unloaded again.

Have you tried verifying game integrity (and less likely, but maybe also rebooting your PC)?
