"Personal experience" and "math" are not some binary opposition. You are supposed to use both of them together to create synergy. Pure math based balance is just as dull and boring as pure subjective view what you don't like and refuse to accept.

Even when personal experience, in-depth testing AND math was brought up in regard to Minishark, you discarded all of it and refused to acknowledge anything. So I don't think you have a very strong case at all & you don't even seem to follow it yourself.

Nothing was "discarded". All the arguments were answered.

Testing was proven as inadequate in numbers through via central limit theorem. What is also "math". About the other "math" as in raw dps calculation it was pointed out that they don't take accuracy into account hence being organically inaccurate. In the end I suggest the new method of testing what was supposed to lead to a new approach in the weapon comparison what was deemed to be both more scientific and practical as in close to real gaming experience.

The only reaction afterwards was couple of boulder emoticons what, at that point, I treated as a form of sick joke in an attempt at venting of the side who just lost an argument.
But since there is literally no new "arguments" presented but those emoticons, now with the tombstone, posted again, does this mean that I should see this as an actual call to stoning and real life death threat?

If you had actually taken a math exam before, you would find out that just saying "that theorem says this" is not enough, a good justification applies the theorem to the example given.

Even assuming perfect accuracy, every single weapon in the game has RNG in its DPS: whether it's just from crits and the natural damage variance, or weapon-specific RNG like amount of shots per weapon use, random damage output for Pewmatic horn or crystal serpent, etc. Boss killtimes are an application of Central Limit theorem: since boss fights take hundreds of hits to complete, even if the damage has a ton of variance most hits will end up dealing damage somewhere inbetween the middle of its theoretical minimum and maximum, with deviation small enough that just from 2-3 tests you can already get a solid idea of a weapon's time to kill a boss.

Accuracy is impossible to calculate, but similarly to the above in a boss fight the amount of shots you hit eventually averages out to a consistent value. Even If something is so stupidly random that it never ever averages out (In terraria this is pretty much just Zapinator), the one weapon is called inconsistent, not killtimes as a whole. This is just common sense, you dont need to do an Engineering-level statistics course or seek out thousands of testers when every single person who has tried killtimes can tell you they are a consistent way to measure performance for 99% of weapons and has been for years.

No, people are making fun of you. You think that because you know about Statistics you can invalidate tests done by people who have been figuring out this game's meta for years and can't make a single good point about it.

Nobody here is going to give you death threats because you think Terraria weapons need advanced cientific methods to measure their viability. What you need to take from these reactions is that if you keep up this pretentious stubborn attitude it won't be long before nobody takes you seriously anymore.

Folks, enough. Kelp let everyone know that this thread was getting out of hand. Too many times the focus was on the person and not the debate. His suggestion to stay respectful, even if you think the other person is wrong hasn’t been heeded.

Besides, this thread is supposed to be a lighthearted discussion - items that other people love that didn’t really do it for you when you got them. All opinions are valid. Not a thread in which others need to be pushed down into submission for having a “wrong” take on something. It isn’t supposed to be that serious.

I’m going to lock this thread for now. It may open back up, it may not. At the moment it’s not serving an entertaining or positive purpose for the forums.
