This would be my first attempt at making armor in Terraria, but I wanted to give a go at it, so here was my take to it that I submitted!

(honestly, there are SOOOO many other great idea's Ive seen posted! I do hope paladin armor gets in the game, have been for a long time, but I want somebody else to win the competition. 'v')
Woa! Thats amazing! I hope you win :D

Greetings Terrarians!

The development team at Re-Logic were having a chat the other day about just how creative the Terraria community is - from art to music to in-game creations, you all are simply amazing. That got us to thinking... what better way to reward that creativity in the final Journey's End update than to give all of you creative geniuses a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get your very own vanity armor design into the game itself?

That's right - we are giving everyone a chance to submit their own original ideas for Terraria Vanity Armor/Outfits (Head/Torso/Legs), and the winners will see their ideas make it into the game for the Journey's End update! This is your chance to design your own brand new vanity outfit that you'd like to see added to the game! This is sort of like finding that golden ticket and getting to visit the chocolate factory, except there is no tour and no lifetime supply of chocolate... only fame and glory and bragging rights forever listed in one of the best video games ever crafted.

As you might imagine, there are some rules and guidelines and such that are important for you to follow - however, inside of these guidelines, have at it! Anything your minds can dream up, we want to hear about it!

You can also check out the Contest Submission Thread to see current submissions!
Please note! ALL SUBMISSIONS must be posted in the submission thread! If they are only posted in this thread, they will not be considered valid!

GUIDELINES & RULES
WHAT IS ALLOWED/NOT ALLOWED?
  • Only one submission per person! If you make multiple submissions, we will select the first submission made, and the latter ones will be disqualified.
  • All Vanity entries must be the original work of the person submitting the idea - no stealing! (yes, we will look -_-)
  • Sprites from Terraria mods *ARE* allowed but only if you are the original creator of that artwork (this means the actual artist, not just anyone that happened to work on a given mod)
  • Direct lifts/overt references to other games/movies/tv shows/etc. are quite likely to be rejected (if we have to ask permission to use it, don't submit it ;) )
  • Please keep it PG-13 - nothing profane/offensive/etc. please
  • If you are looking for more guidance and next-level design tips, check out this link > Terraria Vanity Contest Best Practices & Design Tips

HOW DO I SUBMIT MY ENTRY?
  • Entries should consist of a design that includes Head/Torso/Leg (aligned to those vanity armor slots in the game). We will not be including wings/dyes/weapons/etc. Sorry.
  • All entries must include artwork of some kind. This could mean anything from super-fancy hand drawn art to MS Paint-level scribbles. However, the art - and any accompanying descriptions - need to be able to clearly communicate the idea. If we have to struggle to understand the concept, it will hurt your chances of winning... and trying to guess art from just text is going to give all of us headaches.
  • If you have a name for your creation, please provide it.
  • Entries should be submitted by posting in the contest submission thread! Entries MUST be posted in the submission thread to be considered valid submissions! If you want to discuss the contest or specific entries, feel free to do so in this thread, Discord, etc.
  • All entries must be submitted by 11:59pm Eastern Time on April 13th, 2020 - NO EXCEPTIONS! :)

HOW WILL THE WINNERS BE SELECTED?
  • The Re-Logic team will select a list of finalists from all of the entries that are submitted by 11:59pm Eastern on April 13, 2020. If this thread is locked, you are too late!
  • We will reveal the finalists on the Weekly Stream later that week (April 17th) , and then we will post them here after the stream.
  • These finalists will be submitted for a community vote across all of our community platforms (TCF, Social Media, Discord, etc) - voting will commence after the reveal steam and conclude in one week, on April 24th. Voting instructions will be provided at that time.
  • There will be no more than three (3) winning entries.

HECK YEAH, I WON! NOW WHAT?
  • Re-Logic will directly contact the winners so that we can begin the process of adding your design into the game.
  • Please note that some creative license in regards to the interpretation on behalf of our artists is expected - so be flexible. (don't worry, we will make it amazing)
  • Re-Logic will have the final say on approval for the winning designs (actual art and text going in-game)
  • The winner's name will be included in some way in the tooltip and/or naming for the item, so that you can always pull it up in game to brag to your buddies.
  • Once we arrive on a final design, just wait for the day when Journey's End arrives and you can run around in your very own vanity creation!

LEGAL STUFF
  • By participating in the contest, you agree to relinquish all rights to your vanity design to Re-Logic for inclusion into the game. Winners will be required to sign a document to that effect.
  • If you are under the legal age to sign legal documents in your country (eg. Under 18 in most countries), you will need your parent or guardian to sign as well - so be sure to get that permission in advance! :)

how do you submit something

I really like DrBagPHD's entry.
Rather than submitting some OC, or trying to immortalize myself in this game, I felt that I should make a vanity set that can really be appreciated by more than just myself. As someone who has a passion for creating projects, I understand that this is not my game, and while yes of course I'd like credit, this vanity contest is to represent this fantastic community. Seriously- congratulations to you guys for creating a game that has grown a community like this one, and supporting it for 9 fantastic years. I wish all of you the best of luck for whatever your next projects may be.

Enough of the sappy essay- I'll get to my vanity set.

A generic space suit, something we really haven't been able to make in Terraria.
I suppose it could be named something like, Astronaut Uniform Set, Astronaut Uniform Helmet, Torso, etc.

Thanks.
I WANT THIS GUY'S ENTRY ^ TO WIN SO BAD. I've always been a space lover myself (suprisingly not star wars/trek/firefly, ect guy!), and I'd really like to see a space costume in the game.

Also, DrBagPHD may have unintentionally brought up a good point.
You probably don't have to include your own OC into your art.
To me, all I'd want from a submission is a 'victor' or 'runner up' title (unlikely. I've seen some really good ones.) If I would ever want to implement some kind of a character into Terraria, I'd either 1. use what we have in the game to make it, or 2. mod in my own set. To me, being able to get 'an exclusive title of a victor' is a completely different experience than 'being able to relate to the character you're playing as more'.
If you implemented your own OC, that would mean that only you and the others that know about it would be able to enjoy it for what they know it is.
So, for example, if you were to implement your OC, say, Bobby the Future Man who has 6 arms and a B logo on his shirt, how many other people could use that costume for their own purposes? (Excluding Halloween, of course. Also, Bobby the Future man sounds like a really funny OC lol)
My submission looked like a standard Terraria armor set. It wasn't an OC; but just clothing. I think being able to make vanity that's not only interchangeable with other pieces, but also vanity that everyone can enjoy, should be something that people aim for with their entries! OF COURSE: Most every entry, in the end, should end up being a good halloween costume, but to me; I value the ability to mix vanity sets. You shouldn't have to mod the game or enter a contest to add your characters: you should be able to use the choices given to you from within the game to make your character what you want them to be. That's also why I would want something like this to win -- it would give us more options! (Not to mention that I usually feel uncomfortable using costumes that have backstories I dislike -- because I feel like I'm playing as the character that the costume pertains to, even though I may be just using the piece in a set for my own purposes.)

I think that the moderators may already understand this. I can't speak for certain, but if you aim for something that you want because you enjoy it on a deeper level than others, not all others will be able to enjoy it on the same deep level as you, and therefore the mods may not, um, well, enjoy (PUN) your submission as much. That's not to say that all submissions like this are bad. If yours is/was, but you think that your entry may in fact be hurt because of what was said above, and you're worried that your character may not make it into the game, allow me to introduce you to TModLoader and C# -- you can add it to the game yourself! Share it around! Sure, modding is a bit hard at first, but once you get the hang of it, you can do cooler and cooler things with it. If worst comes to worst, there are always friendly people on the TModLoader discord to help you out with spriting or coding.

And lastly, I'm not one of the judges. They might think completely differently than me, and this IS their contest. They decide who wins or loses, not me.

Why do you think it’s over already? The main post (it’s best to read allll of it :)) says submissions will be taken until April 13.
I'm so sorry  I actually did read the whole thing. I was thinking it was April and not March. I really need more sleep in my life. Be back soon with a entry. Thank you for setting me straight. Who knows how long I could have been doing April things when in reality...it was March all along :eek::eek:

If I were to have a cape and a shirt attached together and have it as a single clothing piece, would it be allowed?

2 questions,
First, lets say I want to submit just a helmet/hat at first, then wanted to have a separate unrelated torso and leg set. Will I still be able to submit the torso and leg set or will I be stuck with the hat?
And second, will there be sub-categories for the contest, like one for the full cosmetic armor set, one for just a hat slot, etc.?

1. Earlier someone had asked a question similar to yours (not exact, but similar enough): "If I wanted to make just a head and only a head would that be allowed?

The answer from Leinfors was this: "I think right now, we are saying its NOT against the rules, but I would strongly recommend against it. I think just a head vanity is going to be underwhelming and hurt your chances of winning, its really not fitting the full scope of the contest.

2. No, there won't be categories.
