Official Let's hear your forum improvements!

Hi both,

I've moved your posts here into the main discussion thread to keep it all together.

We definitely do not play on allowing current users to keep posting; keeping it around for existing users would both defeat the point of closing it, and be unfair to new members of the forum.

Users are perfectly welcome to archive any content from there that they wish to, but I don't believe keeping it around has much benefit. It's not as if it contains guides or information that may be useful to read over in the future so I cannot imagine keeping it in a read only state serves much of a purpose - it's not as if people are going to be going back into old, locked discussions on topics just to read them when you're not able to continue the discussion.

The discussions held on that thread were (as the name states) mature and informative, there are very insightful words held within them, me reading back on them has given me a new perspective on many topics that I hadn't bothered to look in to.

It wouldn't be unfair on new members because everyone would be on common ground of not having them. It is "unfair" on new members as it is since they still won't get their thoughts it

Moving the thread away to a different spot and archiving it does not defeat the point as the conversation is still not being given, and such discussions won't continue as per Forum Rule, but the current discussions as they are aren't insightful to any controversy, as they were mature, there was no malice or animosity within them

At the end of the week [the week of Jul 17 - Jul 23], it [the controversal talk section] will be removed, and going forward we’d like to keep the focus on Terraria and community, making this your friendly neighborhood Terraria hangout.
The streamlining process of the forum also contains to focus the forums more to Terraria. The small off topic section is for casual talks.
The controverse discussion section that was enabled by default on account registration until today which took some attention to Terraria away.
If you want to do controverse talks, you may connect on forums that are specified to controversal talk; the TCF is in my and the dev and staff team's opinion, not quite the right place.

I would really like it if there was a way to "unwatch" profile posts you commented on because I hate replying to a post that happens to blow up (like one from redigit or something) and I wake up with 25 messages. or maybe at least instead of unwatching, you choose to watch it instead, like a forum post does (i think).

I designed a concept for a team squirrel trophy.

Announcement regarding the Mature Discussions section

Hello Terrarians, as we’ve gone through streamlining and simplifying the forum‘s layout and sections, we took the opportunity to re-look at some of the sections that may not be enriching the forums anymore. As we strive to make this the best place to discuss and talk about the game, as well as making it a safe haven to just hang out and chat with other Terrarians, the Mature Discussions section is falling into neither of those categories.

We love when Terrarians from around the world come here to talk about one of their favorite games, and it’s a treat when they stick around to keep discussing it, or stick around because they found a group of Terrarians to hang out with here, and that includes all of you reading this.

So while we continue to focus on building a site that keeps the spotlight on Terraria discussions, and having a quaint corner of the forums dedicated to keeping the neighborhood and community feel alive (profiles and Non-Terraria Topics section), we are going to have to let the Mature Discussions section go.

This decision wasn’t made quickly or lightly. It’s been a discussion point behind the scenes for years, and we feel that now is the right time to move forward with it, as there are much more suitable places than these forums for the discussions of polarizing and controversial topics.

So what’s next? For now, the Mature Discussions section has been closed to new threads and new posts. At the end of the week, it will be removed, and going forward we’d like to keep the focus on Terraria and community, making this your friendly neighborhood Terraria hangout. With that in mind, topics that are controversial or polarizing should be taken off forum, and discussed elsewhere.
It is sad that this decision prevailed. The section was quite informative and definitely worth reading.
The discrepancy between the main topic of the forum and the mature discussion section is understandable. Nevertheless, the fact that it existed for so long is a miracle by itself.

Threads from Want to Buy, Want to Sell, Terraria Shops sections combined into the new Trade With Other Players section
Threads from PC Guides, Console Guides, and Mobile Guides sections combined into the Terraria Guides section
Well, frankly, these are the only changes I've actually liked. Although I suppose that could just be because I don't do anything in these sections at all.
Other than these, I don't really mind putting suggestions all as one section and same with Terraria art since non-terraria art was always that way.
However beyond the above, I've disliked all of the changes that were done, and preferred the forums as they were before any of these changes.

Forgot to mention I do actually like that mods, maps, and resource packs are their own category rather than just part of the PC category.

Can you explain why you don't like the changes, and which specifically? There's not much to work with if it's just "I don't like them".

Well, I personally found it easier to find threads about other games or non-game media when those still had their own sections.

And while I admit the decision makes sense, having introductions and AMAs in the same category with threads that aren't specifically about the individual user making said thread just doesn't feel right.

Personally I think other games and other media could have easily been merged, but I'm not entirely certain how well merging them all into off-topic worked, partly because I find there are enough problems with the search function that it can't really be relied upon and I don't know if you can use the filter with the quick search.

And to me it also seemed nice to have them separated, as one is more niche and the other is more general. Like, other games/media kind of only fits people who know that other media, while off-topic is normally general enough that knowledge of other media isn't required.

As for introductions & AMAs, I do like how they're less buried now, but to me introductions don't have enough discussion value to have their own section. I just don't know how to do it better.

But really I think my main change would probably just be separating other media into its own section again, I just don't know how possible it is to do that at this point.
