[Apologies in advance, but there will not be sprites or precise stats in this suggestion. It would be 12 sprites as well as 24 different pieces to balance and I just don’t have the time nor patience for that. For the purposes of this suggestion, “high, “low,” etc. only matter in comparison to other pieces. The ones that would use the original sprites are on top of the new ones. I hope you understand.]

Introduction

This is a bit of a bold suggestion, but I really like it. Upon beating Moon Lord, you go from having several available playstyles through various armor sets and pieces in them to being shoehorned into one set for each class. I find it pretty boring that you have to deal with a bunch of all-around boosts instead of actually getting what you care about, so I suggest having two sets per pillar. The interesting part of this suggestion is that you can, well, mix-and-match them! As long as you’re wearing a full set of any mix of the pieces, you will get a set bonus determined by the helmet. There’s even a little surprise waiting for armor mixers!

So, how does this all work? Well, each armor set is dedicated to one specific playstyle with each piece being dedicated to one specific stat. Helmets always give the same all-around bonuses, instead changing what set bonus you get. The names are pretty simple and possibly confusing, but hey at least they're not Skeletron Prime. Without further ado, let’s see the armors!

Solar Pillar

Solar Flare Armor (Offense)

Solar Flare Helmet
High defense
Medium melee crit
Low melee speed
Low aggro increase
Set Bonus: Gives a Solar aura around the player, dealing steady damage to all inside. If you’re hit, it pulses, dealing huge damage. Probably has a radius of 6-8 blocks (I have no clue if this set bonus fits base or Flare more)

Solar Flare Breastplate
High defense
High melee damage
Low melee speed increase
Low aggro increase

Solar Flare Leggings
High defense
Low melee speed
Low melee crit
Medium movement speed

Solar Radiance Armor (Tank)

Solar Radiance Mask
High defense
Medium melee crit
Low melee speed
Low aggro increase
Set Bonus: Existing set bonus though without the base 12% damage reduction as that’s in the breastplate

Solar Radiance Breastplate
Very high defense
Damage reduction
High agro increase
Low melee damage

Solar Radiance Greaves

Very high defense
Health regeneration
Low melee speed
Low movement speed
High aggro increase

Vortex Pillar

Vortex Void Armor (Stealth)

Vortex Void Visor
Medium defense
High chance to save ammo
Medium ranged crit
Set Bonus: Existing set bonus, though having it actually slow down wings

Vortex Void Breastplate
High defense
High aggro decrease
Medium ranged crit

Vortex Void Greaves
High defense
High aggro decrease
Medium ranged damage
Low movement speed

Vortex Horizon Armor (Offense)

Vortex Horizon Helmet
Medium defense
High chance to save ammo
Medium crit increase
Set Bonus: Double tap [Down] to go into a frenzy, massively increasing stats for a few seconds (on a cooldown; the cyan Vortex stuff will become dull until the cooldown is over)

Vortex Horizon Mail
Medium defense
High ranged crit
Low aggro decrease

Vortex Horizon Leggings
Medium defense
High ranged damage
Low aggro decrease
Medium movement speed

Nebula Pillar

Nebula Wisp Armor (Mana)

Nebula Wisp Hood
Low defense
Medium mana cost reduction
Medium magic damage
Set Bonus: Existing set bonus

Nebula Wisp Breastplate
Low defense
Medium magic damage
Max mana

Nebula Wisp Leggings
Low defense
Medium magic crit
Mana regen
Medium movement speed

Nebula Supernova Armor (Glass Cannon)

Nebula Supernova Crown
Low defense
Medium mana cost reduction
Medium magic damage
Set Bonus: Shoots a supernova projectile at a low chance every attack. Not getting hit gives stat boosts and increases supernova odds.

Nebula Supernova Robe
Very low defense
Very high magic damage

Nebula Supernova Pants
Very low defense
Very high magic crit
High movement speed

Stardust Pillar

Stardust Squire Armor (Summons)

Stardust Squire Helmet
Very low defense
+2 minion slots
Medium summon damage
Set Bonus: Existing Stardust set bonus

Stardust Squire Plate

Very low defense
+3 minion slots
Medium summon damage

Stardust Squire Leggings
Very low defense
+2 sentry slots
Medium summon damage
High movement speed

Stardust Spark Armor (Whips)

Stardust Spark Mask
Very low defense
+2 minion slots
Medium summon damage
Set Bonus: Hitting an enemy with a whip chains stardust energy between targets, going for three hits. If there are no other options, it will target the same one multiple times. Whip hits also give a stackable buff that gives minor whip speed, damage, and tag damage.
(I also like the idea of giving it a dash instead, but I worry that would overlap with Solar’s too much)

Stardust Spark Breastplate
Low defense
+1 minion slot
High whip range
High summon damage

Stardust Spark Greaves
Low defense
+1 minion slot
High whip speed
High movement speed
Medium summon damage
High movement speed

Lunar Set Bonuses

What happens when you mix armors from different classes? Well, dear reader, there are two secret set bonuses if you mix your lunar armors together!

Mixed Armor with Flare, Void, Wisp, or Squire Headpieces
Set Bonus: Gives damage and crit bonuses (+ summon damage since they can’t crit) that decrease the longer you use a certain class; summons are only affected when a summon weapon is held.

Mixed Armor with Radiance, Horizon, Supernova, or Spark Headpieces
Set Bonus: Gives melee speed, ammo reduction, mana reduction, a summon slot, general damage, and general crit. No nonsense, just stats.
