Items Lunatic Cultist Expert Drop

MrD108

Official Terrarian
Lunatic Cultist is the penultimate main boss of the game, but is also the only main boss without an expert drop.

Since Lunatic Cultist constantly hovers above the ground and never lands, I came up with the idea to make its expert drop a consumable item, Ancient Energy Particle, which, when consumed, adds a separate accessory slot only for the wings.

Since this is the pre-final boss and after it is the Lunar Event where there is not much need (and can) to fly and the Moon Lord which is heavy on its own, it won't be too overpowered.

Red has said before that a separate wing slot won't happen, but I do think cultist having an expert drop would be cool

From what I know, he was talking about the wing slot available by default for each character from the beginning. That's why I suggest adding it as an Expert Drop for the penultimate boss in the game.

I personally have never been a fan of a "wing slot", since imo, the point of terraria's accessory system is to allow the player a choice in how they want to play. How much do you want to invest into movement, and which items do you want use? Do you want to focus on defence or offence, and how much do you want to invest in each? Every choice you make has some sort of a tradeoff, and having an accessory slot that can only have one type of accessory makes this dynamic less interesting. In the case of a wing slot, the appeal of non wing-based movement gets diminished if you get to use your wings for free. I do think the cultist should have an expert drop of some sort, but this isn't what I would want.

Also what do you mean "there isn't much need to fly during the lunar event"? The lunar event is one of the most movement heavy events in the game (unless you are cheesing it I guess).

Of course, I'm mainly talking about the Solar Pillar, but in fact the other Pillars are also more convenient to overcome close to the ground, where you can defeat most of the enemies the fastest.

Wings having their own slots is honestly a terrible concept and it doesnt make sense (Red also said it wont happen)

but is also the only main boss without an expert drop.
He doesnt have any drops at all besides the ancient manipulator because he is not a boss you can grind, every kill will result in pillars spawning, making him a boss that you cannot grind comfortably.

Since this is the pre-final boss and after it is the Lunar Event where there is not much need
If there isnt "much need" for this item then there is no point of it. Cultist, if he has to drop something should drop something that would help you in the pillars.

But why should you grind it? An Expert Item only needs to be acquired once and always has a 100% drop chance.

None of the Expert Items are "much need" - they are nice additions, a reward for higher difficulty levels, but none of them are strictly required or necessary.

what about an accessory that summons a temporary phantasm dragon to fight for you
when you are below 25% health, the dragon comes out and fights for you, disappearing once you heal over 25%

It isnt that expert items are %100 drop chance. Its that for a boss that you cannot properly grind, it makes sense that there arent any more drops other than a crafting station that is used to craft Celestial Weapons and endgame items, but then you add a expert mode drop to it which is unnecessary.

If anything, a possible Cultist expert mode drop should drop in classic too. A boss like this should not have a difficulty locked drop (relic and the pet doesnt count, before you bring it up).

Say this to the Demon heart

What are you talking about? Expert Drops have a 100% drop chance, with the exception of Witch's Broom as it drops from the Event Boss.
Every actual boss has a 100% chance of dropping an Expert Item in Expert Mode, and why should Lunatic Cultist drop it in Classic Mode as well? It doesn't make sense, as a boss he should have his own Expert Drop and it should only fall on Expert Mode.
All these drops are unnecessary, but you can use them because they are just cool and have situational uses.

It even sounds cool.
I'm not saying that Lunatic Cultist should only have the drop that I came up with, I'm glad that someone is giving their ideas instead of just complaining.

this would be awsome. i understand that red DID say that seperate wing slots wouldnt happen, but he HAS changed his mind about things before
