Cultist

Hi there. Some of you may remember the old 'Midas Mode' idea by Tuxlar (if he has a TCF account, please inform me). Well, I am here to bring it back for 1.2.
(The above banner's a bit of a place holder, as it is old, if anyone could update it, that would be great.)
With 1.2 adding much more bling, the item set has been expanded to accomodate this, as well as the finishing conditions.
- Goal: Obtain the Picksaw, or defeat Golem 3 times (whichever comes first) via the power of bling! (Currently Undecided - Open for debate)
- You may only equip "gold"-themed items (with a few exceptions).
- Allowed weapons, armor:
Gold-ore based tools, armor, weapons (including Ancient Gold Helmet).
- Topaz Robe
Ruby Staff
Bee Armor and related weapons EXCLUDING Bee Keeper
- Golden Shower
Coin Gun (Any value of Coin can be used as ammo)
Pirate Staff
Heat Ray (Golem weapon, but if acquired before win condition, can be used)
- Allowed tools and specials:
Flare Gun and standard Flares
Slimy Saddle
Honeyed Goggles
- *
Reindeer Bells (since win condition is to beat Golem, to have this item is highly unlikely, but allowed)
- (Orb of Light is no longer available, as it was replaced by the Shadow Orb
)
Temple Keys
Tiara (get at least one of these ASAP!)
Pharaoh's Clothes
- *
Topaz Hook (After defeat of each mech boss at least once ONLY)
- Allowed accessories:
- Exceptions:
- *Special rules:
- Molten Pickaxe is only available after killing the Wall of Flesh (protip: use explosives for hellstone!).
- Sandstorm in a Bottle/Sandstorm in a Balloon/Yellow Horseshoe Balloon is only available after killing the Wall of Flesh.
- Where a world is found to have Platinum instead of Gold, Platinum cannot be used. Recommend using an Extractinator to obtain Gold or create new worlds until one with Gold is found.
- No restrictions exist for place-able blocks, crafting stations, crafting, NPCs, buying, or selling. Only 'wielded' objects.
You may only build your house (NPC spawns included) out of gold or gold brick, or alternatively, Honey Blocks combined with the Honey Dispenser and all furniture crafted from it!
Only Gold Chests or Honey Chests may be used for storage.
FOOL'S GOLD
For the Bling-impaired, a "Fool's Gold" mode exists with an optional set of sanity concessions:
Further houses may be built out of any material that is not Gold or Gold Brick, so long as they are painted Yellow or Intense Yellow before an NPC resides there.
- *
- *
Sandstorm in a Bottle/Sandstorm in a Balloon/Yellow Horseshoe Balloon is available after defeat of Goblin Army AND Skeletron.
- Where a world is found to have Platinum instead of Gold:
All fishing accessories and Angler Armor
All mounts
True Excalibur (And aquisition of
1 Broken Hero Sword)
GOLDEN RULE
For the Bling-inclined, a "Golden Rule" mode exists with added "hard" restrictions:
Only gold ore, gold brick, sand, honey, gold bars or hallowed bars may be used as place-able blocks.
Coin Gun can only use Gold Coins as ammo.
Only the Sitting Duck's Fishing Pole and Golden Fishing Rod can be used. (This may be unfair... - Open for debate)
- *
Sandstorm in a Bottle/Sandstorm in a Balloon/Yellow Horseshoe Balloon available after defeat of Plantera.
Go for the gold a second time!
This is a WIP, so any feedback/suggestions are welcome to improve this challenge's upgrade for 1.2.

After some (solitary
) consideration, I've made some changes:

- Topaz Hook now available after 'Jungle becomes restless' (defeat of each mech boss once)
- Furthermore, the Topaz Hook in Golden Rule is now available after defeating Plantera.
- (Changed from being available after Goblin Army to make it more in line with original Midas Mode)
- Win condition changed from beating wave 10 of Pumpkin Moon to obtaining the Picksaw or defeating Golem 3 times, whichever comes first.
- Cutlass
- Paladin's Hammer
- Gatligator
- Hallowed Key (and Rainbow Gun)
- Paladin's Shield
- Yellow Dye (Golden Rule?)
- Power Glove
- Lightning Boots
- Jetpack
- Topaz Staff

Quick update. Since I'm currently using my iPad, I'll leave out images until I can get to my computer.

- Added Golden Shower as allowable weapon.
- Added Topaz Robe as allowable armor.

Can we use Honey Blocks in tandem with the Honey Dispenser?
If you really wanna gold it up, building and all, honey.

Yeah, why not. It's not like the Honey Dispenser isn't rare anyway, so finding it should be absolutely worth it.Can we use Honey Blocks in tandem with the Honey Dispenser?
If you really wanna gold it up, building and all, honey.
- Added Honey Blocks and Honey Dispenser (and everything crafted from it) as allowable materials for building. (Even in Golden Rule!)
- Added Honey Chest as allowable storage in Golden Rule.
Can you use: the lava charm, diving gear, lava wanders, flying carped, sandstorm in a bottle, yellow horseshoe balloon and power glove?

Lava Charm, Lava Waders, Diving Gear - Definitely no. They're more a red/orange colour, and it would have to be at least more yellow/golden to even be considered. At least. Can you use: the lava charm, diving gear, lava wanders, flying carped, sandstorm in a bottle, yellow horseshoe balloon and power glove?
Flying Carpet - Ehhhh... maybe. I'll think about it.
Sandstorm in a Bottle/Sandstorm in a Balloon/Yellow Horseshoe Balloon - I was certainly considering them when making my hotlist. Just forgot to add them. My bad.
I do also think they have a good case for being added (because of golden-coloured sand, and sand being an allowable material to use even in Golden Rule), so... what the heck!
- Added Sandstorm in a Bottle/Sandstorm in a Balloon/Yellow Horseshoe Balloon as allowable accessories, with following conditions:
- Fool's Gold: Available after defeat of Skeletron AND Goblin Army. <---- (Should this be defeat of WoF instead?)
- Standard: Available after defeat of Wall of Flesh. <---- (Should this be defeat of Mech Bosses instead?)
- Golden Rule: Available after defeat of each of the Mech Bosses at least once.
Power Glove - This one's in my hotlist, and I think I has a better case than say, lightning boots, since part of the challenge (speculation on my part, since I didn't create the original idea) is coping with movement difficulty. But this one doesn't have any effect on movement, so... maybe. I'll think about it.

Just found this here, in 2020... Looks like a fun challenge, though, especially with all of the new Journey's End content.
