Scholar's Nest has a good aesthetic and is probably my favorite part about the game.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get into the final game very well since I think that skill cooldown looping for DPS isn't fun.

I was also late to starting it, and my friends couldn't make any callouts correctly. I ended up basically playing blind with other people that already knew what they were doing and I didn't have time to learn anything...

I haven't really gone back to it since launch since I just don't mesh with the type of game it is otherwise.

I don't know if I have a favorite set in particular since I usually just cobble together random stuff based on what my current character's build or desired aesthetic is.

However, I am quite fond of Harpy Wings in specific, and I'm also a fan of all the little headgear accessories that end up just being ears or hairpins.
Jim's Wings are also good, too.

For an example of mixing and matching, here's a few I have sitting around.

Using Monk's Belt ends up bridging the gap between Mermaid Adornment and Red Riding Leggings to make the top not just look like a pixel shell bikini, the Titan Glove matches the Monk's Belt for a splash of matching color, and the Prince Cap brings it all together to give it a sense of being a full ensemble instead of just random stuff thrown together.
The burning hairpin is just for intimidation.

pink creature
1743967419357.png

every visible accessory just screams pink, and you can't be a manic pink pixie creature without some pointy ears
mana regen band isn't visible on this setup, but i leave it on as a swap just in case i feel like using less mana-intensive weapons and don't want to deal with mana flower
yo-yo glove lets the pink creature have gloves without them being huge, and also hides the mana regen band. planned.

what's scarier than a plague doctor? a plague doctor wearing shackles that's swinging a sword
this guy is much more utilitarian in nature since i played him for a don't dig up world and didn't worry too much about making him fancy.

man still has a bone glove on lol

I see the Nightglow, I like that there is a handheld lattern in this game!

Also, how many playthroughs have you finished? And can you show characters from some of them? Preferably if you show them holding a food item, but that's not required.

I had to get these off my old computer, some of these are pretty old so they're not as fancy

Favorite/least favorite books?
I'm not very well-read, unfortunately, due to life circumstances. My literary knowledge is limited to my high school English class libraries and a few visual novels.

As far as "traditional" literature is concerned, I'm a fan of Fahrenheit 451 and The Pit and the Pendulum. Including digital works, I rather enjoyed Rewrite.

ankh or frozen shield?

ankh or frozen shield?
In typical gameplay I usually only bother with making the Ankh Shield due to the extra Defense bonus as well as getting Stoned and Chilled immunity with my knockback immunity.

If I'm playing a dedicated tank setup in friend multiplayer servers though, I end up shieldmaxxing by running Ankh Shield along with the Paladin's Shield, all its tinkers, as well as a Flesh Knuckle and Berserker Glove.

The frozen shield is just better though. Why not use it, and why not use it in multiplayer instead of the ankh shield ?

It’s always so cathartic whenever someone uses one of the hades dyes in a way that actually looks good instead of splashing it all over their entire character.

What world size do you usually play on?

She does use it in multiplayer, she just said that she uses the paladin's shield and all its tinkers alongside the ankh in multiplayer. Also she has explained why she prefers the ankh over the frozen shield in single player. I don't think you can necessarily say that the frozen shield is better because they have slightly different niches, as the frozen shield focuses more on reducing how much damage you take while low on health and the ankh focuses on preventing you from being hindered by debuffs.

True, but Debuffs are really only an issue in the dungeon and feral bite. Meanwhile frozen shield is great in all scenarios.

Tbh I never use the frozen shield unless I am playing true melee because I prefer to focus on dodging and increasing my damage rather than increasing how many hits I can take as I don't find tanking obscene amounts of damage fun. I like being in scenarios where me and my oponent can kill eachother quickly as that is a lot more exciting. With this playstyle if I am going to take a shield because I keep getting stunlocked it is going to be the ankh due to the QoL of not having to worry about most debuffs, even if the frozen shield gives more survivability

You don't really encounter a lot of debuffs though. The dungeon and duke Fishron are the only places where you'll be spending a lot of time with debuffs.

It just all depends. I looked at the character again and this is apparently what their final tanking setup looked like:
1743981218021.png

Remembering how the playthrough went, I was jokingly ribbing my friends for dying to EoL while I was holding her in one place tanking. I believe I said something like "you guys should try dodging attacks next time" to which one of my friends replied "excellent argument, tank" so then for the last stretch of gameplay I pivoted into a more traditional Menacing-based damage build to remind my friends that I very much do know how to dodge attacks.
It’s always so cathartic whenever someone uses one of the hades dyes in a way that actually looks good instead of splashing it all over their entire character.
I think the flaming dyes are at their best when used for spot color accents or when used for temporary emphasis.

As another example, while my namesake character's hair is normally a deeper ocean blue shade, on a melee loadout I have for lazy Zenith play I use Hades Dye over the Familiar Wig to emulate a sort of awakening/powerup aura, causing her hair to turn a lighter shade of blue in the process.

1743981518301.png

It's all the fun of activating a super form at the press of a button!

Gel Dye is also incredibly good on Terraprisma, turning it into a literal ocean of swords.
1743981595377.png

What world size do you usually play on?
I spend a long time on each world, so I always end up generating Large worlds. I reserve Small and Medium for experiment hubs.

True, but Debuffs are really only an issue in the dungeon and feral bite. Meanwhile frozen shield is great in all scenarios.

Gonna combine these into one reply since it's the same general message.

I spend a lot of time in gameplay sessions, and because of this I have a lot of time where I can be exposed to Stoned, Chilled, and Bleeding.
Being scraped by a bat and losing control of my character for any amount of time is a death sentence, so I live off the Ankh Shield. I simply do not gain a lot of value off the Frozen Shield in singleplayer scenarios because I don't spend a lot of time below 50% max HP.

As an example from my most recent Legendary mode playthrough, my final build for the Moon Lord was this:
1743981970598.png

You may notice a lack of Ankh Shield, or any Shield at all. I wasn't using one due to a lack of space, each accessory was doing something important.
I wouldn't be able to benefit much from Frozen Shield in this specific setup, because my arena setup involved the two Heart Statues I found being at the far ends of conveyor belts, allowing recovery hearts to pool at my recall point to quickly heal with.

1743982297695.png
1743982330765.png

On top of that, while hovering around 300 HP with a 25% damage cut is effectively an extra 75 HP, it just isn't reliable - if my Valhalla Knight armor heals me to 303 or 304, I lose its benefit. This could push me down to a value as low as 220 or 150, which I would sooner use a Potion to get back out of (thus losing the barrier!) or use my aforementioned recall setup to get away from.

However, along the rest of the way until I got to the Pillars, I had an Ankh Shield on, and even now it sits on my building/mining loadout just to not deal with stray mishaps involving Medusas when there's a single Marble block in your zip code.

1743982082085.png

Every accessory has a purpose, and every player has preferences. Outside of the Celestial Shell and Star Veil just being generally consistent workhorses, there is otherwise no one single correct answer for accessory builds or loadouts or whatever.

I spend a lot of time in the dungeon, even in the endgame and also there are a lot of annoying debuffs underground. And if I don't feel like using the ankh shield I am still not going to swap it out for the frozen shield, as debuffs are annoying things that you can get from a minor scrape while big damage usually comes from you stuffing up. If I fly straight into the Moonlord's phantasmal deathray and eat 400 damage that is my fault and I deserve to die for it (in game obv).

I guess I can see the logic in that. I still think the ankh shield is pretty sucky, and the debuffs are pretty easy to avoid outside of the examples I mentioned, but that's my opinion.

Fair enough. Do you switch to the frozen shield during boss fights or invasions without any debuffs?

I kind of disagree, a lot of accessories are usually straight up better than others( at least in typical playthroughs). Hermes boots are worse than rocket, flippers are worse than boc/ws, and etc. You can like things because of personal preference, but that doesn't mean you are nessecarily correct.
