I just got Terraria for Nintendo Switch about two weeks ago. I created a large world with crimson. I’ve been playing everyday since then and have since entered hard mode and explored a great deal of the map. I dug 50+ 5-block-wide hellevators from end to end of the map, each 240 blocks away from the each other. I’ve started purifying my world and have completely cleansed about 7 vertical chunks of the world that are 240 blocks in diameter.
Since I have not defeated the Twins, today they naturally spawned in my world. I didn’t feel like fighting them, and instead allowed them to kill me. I was using the Spider Staff (4 summoned) with the Cool Whip. Upon my death, my screen went black and I got a “system error” notification that automatically closed out my game. When I reopened it, I found that my minimap was entirely explored—everything was black except for spawn. I’ve tried closing out the game and reopening it and my minimap won’t return. All my progress is gone and I dont know if it’s worth it to continue if this kind of thing is just going to happen again.
This is not the first time my game has closed out and caused me to lose data. I was playing with one other person locally in my world, and we had several sessions when the game would randomly close out multiple times. It usually happened when we were in the Underworld for a long time, but it also had happened a few other times prior. Each time it happened, we would reopen it to find that the last 5-8 minutes of our progress had been lost.
Playing on the console already feels like the game is harder with fewer controls and inability to make external games saves; but I like it and it’s what is convenient for me. So much so that I was willing to pay 6x the price of the PC version to buy it on the Eshop. I also had Terraria for PS4 a while back and had to quit because my game save was corrupted and I couldn’t enter my world. I want to continue the game, but Ive seen this issue happen to a few other people on Switch in the last few years and it doesn’t seem like there’s a fix in sight. I don’t want to re-explore my whole world just to end up at square one again. I’m just putting this out there so hopefully it can be fixed soon enough.
