Other Mobile Multi-Player connections

I wish to have a way to connect with my friends through the internet other then having to go to each other's places and connect using the same wifi. For example connecting though google+? It would be very convenient to play with friends like that.

I know that there is an app that does something like this, but it would be very useful to have it already built in-game. Support!

If you have data with a mobile hotspot just connect your friend to the hotspot and it works without using data!

That app isn't free though, having a way to play online in the vanilla game is what people want. Minecraft added online play to their Pocket Edition, so perhaps Terraria could go a similar direction?
