was in multiplayer, unknown if happens in singleplayer.

molecart can mine up chests with items in it, happened once, got 6 chests from 1.
minecart tracks can be duplicated, using the seaweed from ocean tunnel, if it is tall enough.

The Molecart duplicating chests was a known issue. It was supposed to be fixed in 1.4.0.4. Could you please check that Terraria (client and server) is up to date?

it was up to date, and it was me hosting, and chest was removed, and all the items in it.

Could you show the layout of how the minecart track intersected the chest exactly? I'm unable to reproduce, but it might depend heavily on the exact position of the rail and the chest.
