My friend and I spent a lot of time trying to play with each other, but even though I was inviting him through the xbox list of friends, he couldn't get in and even when he invited me.

Hi @Gabrielrebou, welcome to the forums. Make sure that both you, and your friend, have your network settings set to be NAT type of ‘Open’. If you’re still having troubles, I recommend opening a support ticket with 505 Games (the publisher of the console version) here: Terraria (Console)
