PC Multiplayer can't host or connect

Moing

Terrarian
I haven't been able to connect to anyone's multiplayer games or have anyone join my Host & Play games since moving into my current residence two years ago. When attempting to connect, it makes varying progress through the stages of connecting to the game, but eventually times out and shows "Disconnected." Once or twice it has managed to load the world, only to disconnect shortly afterward. I'm able to play other multiplayer games, even ones hosted and joined through steam, with minimal lag.
I'm looking for any advice for finding out what the cause is - I contacted my ISP (which changed when I moved) and their support wasn't able to figure anything out on my behalf. It's a small local ISP, so I don't have high hopes that a) their system wouldn't have something configured strangely that would exclude Terraria or b) that their support could fix something wrong if it is in their control, but I still want to be able to find out what's going on.

Hey @Moing, sorry to hear you're having problems.

Usually these problems are indeed caused by network issues, but we can try and enable error logging to see if Terraria reports any specific issues. Could you follow these steps:

  1. In your Steam Library, right click Terraria and click Properties....
  2. Under the General tab, add the following to the Launch Options field: -logerrors -logfile.

  3. Close the window, then launch Terraria as usual.
  4. Try and join some servers until you have a couple of failures/disconnects (about three or so).
  5. Close Terraria, then go to Documents/My Games/Terraria/Logs. Upload the most recent log to this thread so I can take look.

Here's the logfiles from those attempts - The first is my log for connecting to a friend, the second is my log for that friend connecting to me, and the third is his logfile while connecting to me. I'm going to guess that these aren't helpful, though it is fun to know that my ram sticks are trying and failing to join the party of syncing their rgb to the game.

It does seem like your computer is refusing your friend's connection. Unfortunately, that does seem like it's a problem with your network at large rather than Terraria specifically.

It is possible that your ports aren't forwarded properly. Could you try using TerrariaServer.exe (found in your installation directory) to host instead?
