After seeing Redigit's request for achievement ideas on his profile I figured I'd update my old list from before 1.4.4 with some removals and many additions and repost it here for good practice. Here's over 100 achievement suggestions, sorted by unlock conditions:

Commitment - Survive your character's 100th day. (continuation of the existing "You Can Do It!" achievement)
Heavier Metal - Obtain an anvil made from mythril or orichalcum. (continuation of the existing "Heavy Metal" achievement)
Now We're Cooking - Obtain a furnace.
Raising the Heat - Obtain a hellforge from the depths of the Underworld.
Advanced Metallurgy - Obtain a forge made from adamantite or titanium.
Where Did That Come From?! - Activate a functional statue.
Molecular Reassembly - Use a pylon.

Extreme Ammo Conserver - Reach or exceed 80% chance to not consume ammo. (I think this would work better if you could actually see your total ammo consumption chance somewhere)
Master Baiter - Reach or exceed 300 fishing power.
Terminal Velocity - Reach the maximum fall speed of 179 mph.
Olympic Sprinter - Reach or exceed a horizontal speed of 290 mph.
AND THIS IS TO GO EVEN FURTHER BEYOND! - Exceed 500 max health through use of the Lifeforce Potion.
How Did We Get Here? - Have the maximum number of buffs/debuffs (44) active at the same time.
Dedicated Purifier - Clentaminate 100,000 corrupt or crimson tiles to Hallow or purity.
Penetrator - Pierce through 10 or more enemies with 1 attack.
Hawkeye - Have the Night Owl, Spelunker, Hunter, Dangersense, and Biome Sight buffs active at the same time.
Bottled Up - Equip the Cloud in a Bottle, Blizzard in a Bottle, Sandstorm in a Bottle, Tsunami in a Bottle, and Fart in a Jar at the same time.

An Engineer's Greatest Tool - Craft The Grand Design.
Green Thumb - Cultivate and harvest every type of herb.
Scholar - Obtain every spell tome.
The Entire Soundtrack - Obtain every music box.
Enemy of Nature - Kill 40 different kinds of critters.
Zoologist - Capture 40 different kinds of critters with any bug net.
Topped Off (for real this time) - Use every permanent character stat booster item (listed on the wiki) on 1 character. (continuation of the existing "Topped Off" achievement)

Cannibalism - Kill a piranha with the Piranha Gun.
Smile, You Son of a... - Kill a shark with a Musket using Explosive Bullets.
Hunter of Ducks - Kill a Duck with either Zapinator.
You Melted an Elf - Melt an Elf with the Elf Melter.
Shinobi - Kill any enemy with a shuriken while the Ninja set and Master Ninja Gear are equipped.
I Understood That Reference! - Use the Sergeant United Shield with the Avenger Emblem equipped.
Master Chef - Craft a food item while wearing the Chef set.
Sentry Going Up - Summon any sentry while wearing the Engineering Helmet.
Shiver Me Timbers - Use a Cannon while wearing the Pirate set.
Fore! - Score a hole in one while wearing the Country Club set.
Anarchy (suit yourself for this one) - Defeat the Queen Bee with the Bee Gun, The Hive-Five, Beenades, and/or The Bee's Knees (with Wooden Arrows only) while also having at least 1 Hornet summon active and wearing any FULL permutation of bee attire (3 armor pieces + 3 vanity pieces + Queen Bee mask) AND riding the Bee mount. (surely this wouldn't be a nightmare to code)
Stop Hitting Yourself! - Defeat the Golem with the Golem Fist.
Eye to Eye - Defeat the Twins with the Optic Staff.
An Eye for... Three Eyes? - Fight and defeat the Eye of Cthulhu and the Twins at the same time.
Welcome to the Bone Zone - Fight and defeat Skeletron and Skeletron Prime at the same time while wearing the Skull or either of their masks.
Prepare for Trouble... - Fight and defeat the King and Queen Slimes at the same time.
The Full Might of the Jungle - Fight and defeat the Queen Bee, Plantera, and Golem at the same time.
Make Sure to Remember to Sew It! - Wear an Eyebrella in the rain.

RIP Bozo - Die to Skeletron, Skeletron Prime, or Empress of Light during daytime, or to the Dungeon Guardian at any time.
That's a Lot of Damage - Die to an enemy in a single hit while at full health.
Coward - Die from trying to teleport away from the Wall of Flesh.
At Least Your Money is Safe, Right? - Die within 2 seconds of recalling home. (unavailable on Journey)
Hope You Didn't Fall in Lava - Die with a full inventory on a Mediumcore character.
What a Big Stomach You Have! - Die to a Wolf while wearing the Red Riding Hood set.
It Only Lasts 6 Minutes - Die to lava shortly after the Obsidian Skin buff expires.
Planning Ahead - Die to fall damage shortly after the Gravitation or Featherfall buffs expire.
Stone is Heavier Than Feathers - Die to fall damage while afflicted with Stoned.
I Would've Dodged That - Die to a boss with 1 second left on the Potion Sickness debuff.
What's Hitting Me? - Die with at least 2 active damage-over-time debuffs.
The 1% - Drop a Platinum Coin or more upon death.

What Has He Ever Done to You? - Witness the deaths of 50 Guides.
Infinity +2 Sword - Obtain a Copper Shortsword with the legendary prefix.
Old Timer - Try to use a hammer on a Crystal Heart.

You Should Buy a Lottery Ticket - Have a Solar Eclipse occur the morning following a Blood Moon or vice versa.
Yo Dawg, I Heard You Like Portable Storage - Nest the 4 portable storage items (Defender's Forge, Safe, Void Bag/Vault, Piggy Bank/Money Trough/Eye Bone) inside each other to make 1 long chain.
Improvise, Adapt, Overcome - Use explosives to destroy a tile that you couldn't with your pickaxe.
Buy High, Sell Low - Immediately sell back an item you just bought from a vendor.
That Might Not Have Been the Best Idea... - Split the Eater of Worlds into 5 or more segments.
Surely the Next One... - Ignore 10 bites in a row while fishing with a Sonar Potion.
The Grand Unboxing - Open 25 fishing crates within a minute.
