Thank you to all for your patience as we underwent some maintenance here at the forums - below are some new changes that you may notice as you meander around.
NEW PROFILE CHARACTER LIMITThe character limit for a new profile post or comment is now 1,000 (up from 420). Hooray! This has been an often requested change, and we are so happy to be able to do this for you now.
NEW TOWN SLIME EMOTESThanks to @CerealSunny all 8 town slimes have joined the forums last week. You can find them in the Smilies while composing a message. Scroll down until you see the Town Slimes section.
NEW LOOK FOR EMBEDDED POSTSPreviously when you included a link to another post, if the url was on its own line, the forum would try to give you a nice preview that included the title and part of the contents. Now, the preview will be richer and will include the author's profile pic, date, contents, and reactions.
SLIGHT NAME CHANGEConversations are now referred to as Direct Messages. This was a change made by the forum software itself, not sure why. But they function the same. Hovering over the little envelope icon still says "conversations", but most everywhere else they are now called direct messages.
IMPROVED SEARCHWith this update, there is a new enhanced search working behind the scenes that we hope provides a better experience for everyone. It is supposed to be faster, better, smarter. Let's all cross our fingers and toes that's the case.
Please give this new search some time, as a lot needed to be done on the back end and things may still be falling into place. You can even search for words that are three characters or less - so doing a search for "TCF" will give you results now.One thing to note - if you are on the Advanced Search page, results will start to fill in even before you've hit the enter button. That functionality should be the same when using the regular Search button at the top right, however, it's not working right now. We'll work on getting it fixed, but didn't want to hold up the forum maintenance any longer.
SIMILAR THREADSAt the bottom of a thread page, there will now be a small list of similar threads that may catch your interest. This feature may take a bit of time for the best results to show up while it learns how to optimize and fine-tune things.
ALREADY DISCUSSEDHave you ever been in the Suggestions section and seen the same type of suggestion over and over? And over and over? Ocram anyone? Well now there will be a small list of similar threads that appear while a member is typing out the title of a new thread. Which will hopefully prompt them to visit one of those existing threads instead of making a new one. It's not just for the Suggestions section either, so this may help out with some of the most common questions we see in threads.
STEAM INTEGRATION REMOVEDWe needed to move ahead with this update without Steam integration as was mentioned a little while ago (Important - Login/Register with Steam feature is being removed). If this affects you, please take a look at that thread for details.
That's it for the most visible changes. There will be some smaller changes here and there that you may also notice. For the time being, give us a bit while we correct any quirks and pinpoint any tweaks that need to be made. If you see something that you think is in error, give it some time, and if it's still looking wrong in a day or so, let us know here.
As always, these forums are for all Terrarians to gather and join in the community that Re-Logic has built, and we hope that some of these changes make TCF an even better place to visit and hang out.

Weird. I know for sure that after the "show all" text it said "start new direct message" earlier today. I'll look into it.

The Similar Threads results is likely always going to have some head scratchers included. The system tries to do its best, but it's only able to do so much - in this example, it looks like it's looking for things that include something tangentially related to "double".

So, message never disappears once you click on "View them?" hyperlink, and the posts duplicate on client's end.

These changes are mostly pretty good but the 'similar threads' thing kind of sucks, is there any way for us to disable it individually because it very minorly gets in the way of posting (you used to just be able to scroll all the way down) and isn't very useful most of the time.
You've always been able to anyway, I have a convo with myself I used to use to save large WIP posts.

So, update regarding glitches (other than obvious similar threads needing a bit of a rework) I've shown: This affects all thematic Terraria themes: Snow, Corruption, Crimson, Hallow, Underground, Hallow, Forest.
It only doesn't affect XenForo Default theme.
A related minor glitch is text saving upon responding in Terraria themes. Not a big deal, but could be fixed.
And signatures no longer expanding in those seven themes.

Also I know a lot of people are excited about 1000 character profile posts (So am I, I can finally stop resisting the urge to rant at people under their profile posts), but this is definitely the feature I appreciate most, it is a huge help, I have been testing it out and it's awesome.
