Important New Forum Update - Feb 2025 changes

The character limit for a new profile post or comment is now 1,000 (up from 420). Hooray! This has been an often requested change, and we are so happy to be able to do this for you now.
oh, mods... thank you, but you really shouldn't have... i cannot be trusted with this much power 😈

I noticed that signatures no longer show fully even when you press a spoiler button in the signature.

Welp
Also when I post something on mobile (haven't tested on PC), things in the input box doesn't disappear
(But still, this really is a QoL improvement as the loading is now as fast as thunderbolts on my mobile phone while I need to wait for persumably 1 to 4 minutes before the update)
(by the way, I tested all the mentioned problems above and found that they all actually exist, ya might need some time fixing this!)

Thanks, we'll be looking into this. Seems to work fine in the XF Default theme, but not our custom themes. We sort of expected some issues with those

Also happens on PC (as I accidentally discovered), this also seems to be related to our custom themes as well

(originally part of a different thread but was moved here.)

So as of recently every time I post something in a thread, instead of just posting the post, it will post it, but keep the text in the text box, which will make me try to post it again but the no double posting poppup will make me realize that I already posted it.
It's just a minor annoyance, but I don't imagine it's intentional.
I have only tried this on mobile so I do not know if it is an issue on pc.

Here I shall post a video of this glitch.
Yes my keyboard is wonky.

there's also and issue where signatures take up a limited amount of space and therefore do not expand correctly, cutting themselves off.

all kinds of fun

i've experienced this too, so i'm just adding in my confirmation

Tunnel king mentioned he's aware of this (along with signatures being unable to expand) in the forum update thread, so hopefully it will be fixed soon.

If you really don't like it, switching to xenforo default theme (ewww...) is a temporary fix for both bugs.

As mentioned above, I just wanted to confirm that we're aware of the issues and actively looking for a fix :)

We're aware that things appear a bit wonky at the moment, we're trying to fix it ....

Don't forget to take your time, @Tunnel King ! You all are awesome and work hard! Don't forget to double and triple check for bugs!

TBH, as long as an effort is made then imma just be grateful that these people are willing to contribute time and effort to making this a better place for us.

that, and I'm just waiting for the day when the forums has there own relogic moment and finds bug thats so good or funny it's left and labeled as a feature.

I'm not a fan of the new look for embedded posts... particularly, that they take up so much more space.
Is there a way to make them use the old look?

Status update:
  • We think we have the "post reply edit box not clearing" bug fixed and working on all the custom themes. That was super annoying for everyone, sorry about that.
  • That fix might have changed something on the mobile/small window view - avatars are stretched out and look rather ugly. We are still looking for a way to fix that that doesn't break anything else we have/haven't fixed
  • The patch above also seems to have fixed the "view more messages" bug
  • We have a fix (possibly temporary) for the signature expansion bug. It works slightly differently than before - only the first spoiler in the signature will expand it, and the signature won't contract all the way until the page is refreshed. If your signature does not have a spoiler and goes beyond 150px, it's simply cut off - you'll need to use a spoiler to get it to expand. We hope to be able to get it back to the original functionality. but it may take some time

Each Xenforo update has the potential to affect our custom themes in some unforeseeable ways, and this time there were more issues than usual. From Xenforo's perspective, our custom themes are just another add-on; when they break, it's not something they support so it's up to us to figure it out. We are reaching out to others in the XF community for help with these things - we've been fortunate to find help there before.

Thanks for your continuing patience with these issues while we work to clean up the other things we didn't expect.
