If a Player ascends into a Pressure Plate from below without moving horizontally, the pressure plate does not activate, and, in fact, cannot activate until the player is no longer in the trigger area. A mechanism built like the setup in the attached file can be used to test this. Walk underneath the pressure plate, come to a standstill, then jump. The pressure plate will not activate until the player leaves the detection range and comes back. The stone blocks prevent the player from jumping above the pressure plate, or onto the platform. The pressure plate will not trigger.

In fact, this setup works with any height, so long as the player approaches from directly underneath.

I had assumed that this was deliberate, due to the implication of the pressure plate needing to be pushed down. (To be fair, you can also activate a pressure plate by walking sideways into it without moving vertically at all, but that's beside the point.) However, Weighted Pressure Plates will trigger in the same setup - In fact, they'll trigger twice, as expected, as the player enters and leaves their detection area.

Tested with all player-triggered varieties sold by the Mechanic, but first discovered with blue Pressure Plates. Lihzard Pressure Plates are untested. Orange Pressure Plates, expectedly, do not break, either. In some cases, approaching from below while moving also fails, but sometimes it does not.
