WIP Not A Normal Kind Of Rain Suggestion (Check Back Often For Updates!)

Discussion in 'Game Mechanics' started by Bry-ccentric, Sep 15, 2015.

[11/24/2017] Hey, real quick, this was my first REAL suggestion thread, and it's massive and generally unpleasing to the eyes. It's Full Of Typing Like This where I didn't revise, and also weirdly formatted, and the sprites aren't that good compared to what I have now.
Also, things are explained horribly. This thread is WAY too big for me to want to fix anything, though.

    [7/14/2018] The redoing-ing begins.

[7/22/2018] Oh :red: me, I forgot how volatile the BBCode in this suggestion was. I'll just fix it as I fix up the enemies, so until this is done, some things are going to look a nice, disgusting shade of pale-yellow(?).
Okay, Rain. It gives us around, what, 7 enemies? In total? And a higher fishing level?
It's like a Blood Moon, but instead of blood it's water.
You'd think rain'd have at least a little more than that. I sure did.
Guess where that train of thought landed me.
I wanted to make rain feel a little more lively, but I didn't really know how to go about achieving this for a while.
Then I saw a Goldfish waddling on its fins in the rain, and Angry Nimbi only spawning in the Forest.
Alright, before you go on ahead to the giant wall of spoiler, make sure you remember these following five things (don't stress over it too much; I just need to save space for other images, as well as my time):
    1. All of the Quest Fish can be found in the world once you catch it for the first time; handing it over to the Angler is not required (for those overly-determined players who end up catching a quest fish in the last 5 seconds before 4:30 AM).
    2. All fish can drop themselves when killed with a 12.5% chance (that's 1/8, for those bad with percentages), hostile or not. Well, unless stated otherwise.
    3. Pre-Hardmode Fish drop 12 [IMG], while Hardmode Fish drop 45, unless stated otherwise (the exceptions usually drop a LOT more).
    4. All Biome Nimbi spawn as often as the Angry/Rainy Nimbus, unless, again, stated otherwise.
    5. All Fish spawn inside tiles of Water, u n l e s s s t a t e d o t h e r w i s e .
Alright, with that out of the way, let's move on to the meat of this suggestion!

First (and biggest) thing on the list...
    The Enemies!
    Forest/Underground
    Bunny Fish
    [IMG]

    It's a Bunny.
    It's a Fish.
    It's a Bunny Fish!
This lil' guy bounces around without a care in the world.
Which is accurate, since it's oblivious to pretty much everything. It uses its tail as a pogo stick of sorts to move around, but when it stops raining it starts to flop around frantically. Don't let it know you know that, though; it claims it's trying to start a new hopping trend.
Yeah, not sure how well that'll go for him.
These fish spawn in place of bunnies during rain, including Statue-spawned Bunnies.
    AI: Fish

    Zombie Fish (Upright)

Zombie + Fish. There are 3 variants with different stats, Variant 3 being slightly more common than a Pinky. Slightly. 50% chance of spawning in place of normal Zombies.
These guys move a little faster than normal zombies in water. Otherwise, they move a little slower.

    Slimefish (Upright)

It's a Slime. But it's a fly-ey slime. Have you ever seen the Kuribo Shoe in Super Mario Maker, with wings? This slime acts the same way, hopping, dipping down a bit and then floating up for extra height. It has the jump height of a normal slime's full jump, floats down a block, then makes another jump in midair which is 3 blocks (with a 25% chance of jumping 5 blocks instead). Replaces 15% of Rain Slimes.

Its shape allows it to move 50% faster than a Digger. Has the Worm AI, but if you hadn't noticed, it only has 1 segment. Due to this, it is NOT immune to Knockback.
Will spawn in the Caverns, regardless of its status, corruption-wise.

    Jewelfish

Don't ask me how this is possible. Because I'd probably know as much as you do. Which is presumably next to nothing.
It throws jewels at ya, each doing something different, and it has a chance to freaking lob itself at ya (which hurts a lot more than the individual jewels; the thing's body is solid diamond).
Each gem has an equal chance of being thrown. It has an attack radius of 18 blocks, and the projectile distance is the same as the Expert Skeleton's.
In order... Amethyst can bounce once, Topaz arcs a lot less, Sapphire flies normally underwater, Emerald freakin' sticks to ya to deal damage two more times, Amber flies mostly straight and travels 33% faster, Ruby bounces up to 6 times (off of anything, including nearby players and monsters), and Diamond... does nothing.
    Except hurt. A lot.
Spawns as common as a Sand Elemental, but instead spawns underground near veins of Gemstone.
    AI: Fighter
    Damage: 15 Amethyst, 18 Topaz, 23 Sapphire, 16 Emerald, 30 Amber, 24 Ruby, 40 Diamond (30/66, 36/79, 46/101, 32/70, 60/132, 48/106, 80/176 EX)

    Dynamite Fish
    [IMG]

It's a stick of dynamite that can move on its own. In case you couldn't tell, that's a really good recipe for disaster. This thing is a very destructive force, though it's an uncommon spawn during Hardmode (even rarer beforehand, too). You might not be able to tell at first, since it'll act like a Goldfish when it doesn't see any adventurers. But when it DOES see an adventurer, that adventurer better start running, since this thing's fuse'll start burning and it'll run at you with about as much agility as the Fritz (it DOES run a little slower, though).
The fuse time, damage, and explosion radius for this bad boy are the exact same as a normal stick of dynamite's, so unless you clear outta there fast, you're likely gonna be blown to bits.
Take comfort in knowing that this fish had to kill itself to kill you.
Oh yeah, also, if it can't see you anymore, the fuse'll stop. Try running the fuse down to the end and get a friend to try and kill it.

Pull out your favorite pickaxe (or only pickaxe), because it's Whack-a-Fish Time!
Simply mine the guy with a pickaxe and it'll... take ONE damage.
...What? Getting a Golden Carp shouldn't be EASY.
It spawns in lit up areas and cannot spawn in front of Background objects and debris. Every 6 seconds (4, in Expert) it'll burrow back below ground and pop up in a new spot, and if it has no other location to go to that isn't well lit or in front of stuff, it despawns.
It also only pops up in Dirt, Stone, Mud, Clay, or ore blocks, meaning it can't spawn in the Underground Snow biome.
...It might occasionally try to pop up under you and lunge upwards to attack, though. It'll quickly pull its head back in after surfacing before it does this, so be attentive.

As one wouldn't expect, however, this guy uses the Rainy Nimbus's previous stats.

Yes, that sprite is just the pre-existing item sprite. I didn't bother making another sprite because 1) This works for what I intended for it anyways, and 2) Drawing this thing sideways looks weird.
Remember the Cursed Hammer enemy? Well, this fish acts a lot like it, but instead of directly attacking you, it just spins in place for a bit, flies around semi-randomly, and repeats. Sounds like a crappy enemy, but that's because I haven't fully explained yet.
When it spins around, it spawns in Infected Swordfish, which is a new enemy that is... essentially just a much faster Cursed Hammer.
    That's pre-Hardmode.

It better have. This thing can chase you wherever it damn please while it's raining. It moves just a little bit faster than other jellyfish, too, so you better be watching out.
When it stops raining, it just kinda becomes a Blood Jelly.
...A superfast Blood Jelly. It moves at double the normal speed in bodies of water, AND it can detect you if you're 10 blocks near it, regardless of whether you're in water or not. Which means you better be careful, because it'll lunge out of the water if it can get you in its line of sight.

Yes. But that doesn't mean I didn't think of that. And I have an easy solution to that.

Every world would have exactly 1 "oasis" - a medium-sized pool of water with a few Palm Trees here and there - in any Desert that doesn't have the Underground Desert entrance or a pyramid.

    Starfish

Looks exactly like the decorative Starfish.
Reason for that is, any placed Starfish will become alive and mobile when it rains, if they're actually getting wet and there aren't any blocks, uh, blocking the rain. They'll stay like this until they either step out of the rain for more than 10 seconds, or it stops raining, after which they'll revert back to the Decorative version (if there's placed stuff preventing them from doing so, they'll keep moving until they find an empty spot to stop).

I don't think I have to mention this, but being in bodies of water does NOT let them move around. Has to be raining for them to do so.

    It's everybody's favorite family-less fish!
Except this one has some sort of summoning ritual to procure more Clownfish, so maybe it's not so family-less!

If you get within 25 blocks of this little fish, it'll freak out and start doing a little three-second dance. Following this dance, another Clownfish will jump in from the edges of the screen and begin to summon MORE Clownfish. If you don't deal with these things quickly enough, you'll soon have up to like, 32 of the things present. Which is bad for you, since if there's at least 6 present, any extras will begin rapidly swimming towards you.
You can stop the dance by simply hitting them. It's the actual knockback that stops the dance, though, so you're gonna have to kill it in Expert Mode.
Speaking of Expert Mode, the dance will summon TWO Clownfish instead of one in Expert.

    Hey, you. Yeah, you.
Why not get this AMAZING BANNER, done by @DarkAwesome? You can support this suggestion, and give some publicity to DarkAwesome (assuming he's still in the Banner-making business, that is).

That's an actually pretty interesting concept. Huh. I didn't expect a rain themed suggestion to be decent.

Well the first post is probably about to burst from the sheer amount of BBCode it's holding in. Let's move on to a second post.

Limit Of 4 Clouds Total For Every Rod That Creates Rain Cloud Projectiles.

    Rain Rod
    [IMG]
The Nimbus Rod, just, y'know, renamed and reskinned.
This thing will inflict Wet on your foes, which may seem to be completely useless (though nice, aesthetically); HOWever, Wet now makes enemies take double damage from electric attacks, guarantees infliction of Electrified, and increases Electrified's duration and damage by 25%. Could be exceptionally useful in conjunction with the Lightning Rod.
    Damage: 40 (Magic)
    Knockback: None
    Mana: 10
    Critical Chance: 4%
    Use Time: 21 (Fast)

    Rarity: Light Purple
Sell Price: 3 [IMG] 50 [IMG]

    Blizzard Rod
    [IMG]
A colder Rain Rod; this thing's clouds drop snow (obviously) that spawns 25% faster but falls 50% slower. The snow Chills (and occasionally Freezes) foes.
    The snow pierces twice.
    Type: Weapon
    Damage: 32 (Magic)

    Rarity: Light Purple
Sell Price: 3 [IMG] 50 [IMG]

    Lightning Rod
    [IMG]
A rather shocking Rain Rod. This one strikes lightning downwards, dealing considerable damage, although the lightning only strikes once every second, so it's very prone to missing.
The lightning strikes pierce infinitely and have a decent chance of inflicting Electrified.
    Type: Weapon
    Damage: 108 (Magic)
Knockback: None, though stops all enemies it strikes for .33 seconds if they aren't immune to knockback.
    Mana: 17

    Use Time: 29 (Average)
    Velocity: 12

    Downpour Rod
    [IMG]
Rains down a hell of a lot faster than the Rain Rod (300% rain speed whoa), though the rain itself cannot pierce, and only does half the damage, meaning this thing's gonna do jack :red: against enemies with, well, any defense.
Any enemies that DON'T have defense, though, are gonna be taking a lot more damage.
    Type: Weapon
    Damage: 20
    Knockback: Still none
    Mana: 15
    Critical Chance: 4%
    Use Time: 15 (Very Fast)

    Whoopee. Cushion.
Well, Um, It Creates A 5x5 Frame Of Cloud Blocks When It Hits An Enemy, Like A Nimbi Guardian.
These Frames Last About 15 Seconds Before Disappearing Into Smoke. The Blocks Look Identical To Normal Cloud Blocks And The Projectile Launched To Make The Frame Is Just A
Rain Rod Projectile. Any Other Properties Of The Rod Are Present Here (Excluding Ice Physics), Like When You Click On A Solid Block The Cloud Just Kinda Flies To Infinity And Beyond. Or Until It Hits A Non-Cloud Wand Block.

    This Thing Reaches 7 Blocks.
    But THAT'S NOT ALL.
Right Click With The Weapon And You'll Swing, But 1) Your Reach Is Reduced To 4 Blocks, And 2) It Shoots 4 Water Bolts Where The Mouse Is.
The Thing With The Water Bolts Is, They Work Like Paintball Gun Projectiles, As In, The Gun Won't Lock On A Position, It Follows The Mouse The Entire Time.
How Lovely That Is. Also, The Water Bolts Have The Same Properties As The Spell Book Besides Being Affected Slightly By Gravity (Half The Gravity Of Seeds Shot From Blowpipes, I Guess), Don't Worry About New Mechanic Thingies.
It Shoots 4 Water Bolts Following The Mouse, With A .20 Second Wait In Between Bolts.
    Type: Weapon
Damage: 75 Soaker Spear, 50-100 Water Bolts
    Knockback: 4 (Weak)
    Critical Chance: 3%
    Use Time: 40 (Very Slow)
    Velocity: 4.5
Tooltip: Shoots A Volley Of Sharp Water Bolts.

    Nimbu Guardian Staff
    [IMG]

Huh. So this is how he summons his guardians.
Summons a young Nimbi Guardian, who, unlike his older brethren, has literally no idea who you are, and therefore is open to help you.
What a lucky ducky YOU are, huh?
The young Nimbi Guardian is able to trap enemies in little cloud boxes to keep them off your tail while you fight. The young guardian is able to fire its clouds through blocks, meaning it can literally just keep the same guy trapped for eternity if he so desires to waste eternity in this fashion.
    Type: Weapon
    Damage: Nada
    Knockback: Zilch
    Critical Chance: Zip
    Use Time: 36 (Very Slow)
    Velocity: 16
Tooltip: Summons a young Nimbi Guardian to defend you
    Grants Buff: Young Nimbi Guardian
Buff Tooltip: The young guardian will guard you as best it can
    Rarity: Lime

    Moody Cloud (Thank You @daderpycoolguy!)

Oh crap, a Boss mount. It's not even locked behind Expert Mode, either.
It's a mount that grants you infinite flight, but with a lousy movement speed of 7 blocks per second. On the bright side, it'll triple your total health regeneration rate while flying on it.
    On the dark side, however...
Getting hit while soaring the skies on this thing will turn it into A N G E R Y C L O U D. For the next 5 seconds, A N G E R Y C L O U D will move at QUADRUPLE speed, and drop both raining AND lightning on foes in an identical manner to the Rain Rod and Lightning Rod. While cloud is A N G E R Y, though, you lose that regeneration bonus, as well as your ability to dismount the cloud, so that's helpful.
    Type: Mount Summon
    Use Time: 19
Tooltip: Summon a VERY temperamental cloud
    Buff: [IMG] Moody Cloud
Buff Tooltip: Happy cloud... angry cloud...
    Rarity: Lime

I really like this idea. There's just two major things I have to point out:
    1. Godly Nimbus needs to be a rare spawn to justify that much health.
    2. Frozen Nimbus' freeze debuff time should be reduced to 1 second (2 in expert). 5 is way too much time to be frozen, especially from a constant-damage enemy. Plus, there's the fact that in blizzards, Ice Golems are out. We really don't need to be frozen for 5 seconds when there's one of those shooting at us.
With that said, it's a great suggestion overall! (I have no idea why I colored the text so don't ask.)

I Feel I Balanced Out The Godly Nimbus With Low DEF And DMG, But That's Just Me. `:p
I Will Immediately Change The Frozen Nimbus, As I Forgot About Ice Golems.

The thing is that ichor reduces defense by 20 and hardmode crimson is very hostile with a lot of high-damage enemies. This would be great if it were a rare enemy, though.

I like it, but a couple of suggestions:

Buff the Godly Nimbus' damage to 30, With hardmode armor, This thing would be doing around 5 damage on normal mode, and 15 on expert, and yes, I am taking the ichor debuff into account.

The Dust Cloud is kinda useless as the only other enemies that would spawn in the Surface Desert are pre-hardmode. You have 2 solutions:

1: Add more HM desert enemies that would spawn during rain.
2: The Dust Cloud only spawns in the Underground Desert.

    And finally:
    1,000 damage= bye-bye hardcore characters. I would lower it to 200 damage.(400 expert)

    All-in-all, good suggestion! :)

To be honest I didn't expect that thread to make sense in game, but I'm so positively surprised! I actually can see playing with that all stuff and I like that vision :) Even if it will not make to the game it would be nice if sb made it into a mod.

Thanks For The Feedback! (Also Sorry For Coloring Your Text)
I Will Think About The Dust Cloud And Godly Nimbus!
Also, 1000 DMG Makes Sense To Me, Because The Fallen Starfish Is A Fallen Star (If The Angler Is Correct).
Though I Forgot To Mention, If The Fish Hits A Solid Block Without Going Through At Least 3 Blocks Of Water Diagonally, It Turns Into A Fallen Star.

ALSO, There ARE Mummies And Other Things If The Desert Is Corrupted, And The Nimbuses ARE HM Only.

This would basically make me feel like nimbuses are the new slimes. Which honestly, I don't see as a bad idea. Also, making them drop golden shower and cursed flames isn't a bad idea either. Especially golden shower, considering since because it's coming from a cloud, it pretty much is a shower.
It has a few things that can be worked on. But I like it nonetheless.
