I think it would be cool if there were an option to put items in an off-hand slot, that would give some bonuses. For example if you play melee, you could put a shield in there that would give some chance to block an attack or give some defense. Or if you are a mage player you could use a crystal that would give you some mana regen or damage. There should be more variants in the course of the game.
