Other Oil Pots.

The oil pot is a trap, that when broken explodes into fiery pieces (similar to a big molotov cocktail). It resembles the forest pots that are naturally generated and found across the world, but oil pots are bigger than normal pots, do not drop anything when broken, and are crafted. Oil pots can also be used against enemies similar to TNT barrels.

This trap is inspired by the Oil Lantern / Slick traps from Skyrim that can be found in dungeons and are usually hanging but when broken they fall and explode everywhere.

These are animations of what the oil pot trap could look like. From the second animation you may of noticed that the oil pot is hanging from a block and falls down when the block is broken, this is because the oil pots can also be hung from blocks and platforms similar to lanterns and chandeliers. It probably wouldn't be wise to use a hanging oil pot as decoration as it will still violently explode if someone hits it.

here are some sprites of the different oil pot appearances that it will randomly have when placed down or hung (similar to how gnomes have random appearances each time they are placed). the oil pot is crafted at a heavy workbench using:

This means that they can only be crafted in hardmode because of the explosive powder. Currently explosive powder is only used to make explosive bullets (and I highly doubt there will ever be a flask of explosion) so I think it would be cool if you could do more with it.

That's mostly it, I do think there should be a limit to how many chain reaction explosions you can do with this trap, as I have a feeling that could cause a lot of lag.

THANKS FOR READING.

Yo this is awesome

just a slight comment on the last part of this suggestion, I kinda think it would make sense if this trap kinda just behaved like a big pot that explodes into pieces when broken, but I don't really think or know if those pieces should really be able to break other oil pots (as that could make the trap a bit too volatile).

I think it’d be cool to have these pots splash the oil and fire on you, inflicting both On Fire! & Oiled. Becomes extremely important to have a potion or water source nearby to remedy the high dps combined from both debuffs

cool art btw, if you're good at modding you should make this an addon for tmodloader or a part of a larger mod

Recently, I've become kind of interested in making some sort of mod, and oil pots is the first thing I want to create. I might just call the mod/ addon just "oil pots" or something just to keep it simple.

Edit: I don't really feel like doing programming stuff tbh, so I think Ima just do something else (like doing another animation)

I'm pretty sure the explosive fire trap from the OOA is the only way to make enemies Oiled, so having another way to inflict things with this debuff sounds neat

Yup! Explosive Fire Trap is the ONLY thing that gives the Oiled Debuff presently. It’s uncommon the way Oiled is presently, typically a DOT debuff has multiple sources and can be used by both player & enemy. Electrified is another one of these unique cases, only encountered during Martian Madness, inflicted by two enemies, and the player cannot inflict this on enemies through any means.

Just noticed that the oiled debuff is even more uncommon as explosive traps will only apply it if the player is wearing huntress armor or the post golem red riding armor
